I'm in the middle of it just now and it's the first book I've read in a long time that i can't put down,it's fantastic.

Quick summary: on a day that becomes known as black Thursday 4 planes crash almost at exactly the same time. 3 children survive, plus one woman who lived long enough to leave a message on her phone, taken by some to be a warning...

As I said, i've not even finished it yet and I've already bought the follow up i'm enjoying it so much.

I loved it too! Her follow up Day Four is really good as well.

As an aside, if you like these you'd probably like Bird Box by Josh Malerman. (If you haven't already read it Grin ).

Just finished it, really enjoyed it and the way it was written.

Have to admit, didn't enjoy Day 4 as much.

I really can't share your enthusiasm. The Three was OK but I thought Day Four was just dire.

Me! I loved The Three. I borrowed it from the library and then bought my own copy afterwards. I didn't know she'd done another one, so will look out for that, thanks.

Oh I disagree, thought "the three" was poor. Thought it had so much promise but never really grabbed me.

Resurrecting this thread in the hope that any of you or new readers want to discuss. I read The Three last month and have just finished Day 4...in 24 hours. Bloody loved them, really did.
Will look up Bird Box now, Myironlung should I just go straight in without knowing the basics. Did this with these two and read reviews after.
I know she is prolific and writes under other genres, are there any other recommendations from her works.
Just read that she intends writing a prequel the book after next. She also had a home invasion whilst writing Day 4, lives in South Africa, so respect for completing that under post traumatic stress.
I liked the oral history/epistolary nature of The Three. Would I like World War Z for the same delivery, I wonder. Also liked multiple narratives and cultures.
Loved Day 4, reminded me of The Poseidon Adventure which interestingly the author mentions in an interview, we must be similar in age. Whilst it may be more of a companion piece than sequel per se, I nonetheless enjoyed it and the different characters. I read an article about a missing woman Rebecca Coriam by Jon Ronson and the cover up scenario reminded me of that. There are also accounts on the net of crime and rape on cruise ships which beggar belief, as well as the suicide count.

spoilers SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

I could not understand why Bobby and Lori were dead in this timeline until someone cleverer than me on Good Reads pointed out that the supernatural entities enjoy changing the scenarios and repeating the same catastrophies for shits and giggles.
I had not made the link between the Isha virus in parallel universe/alternate three reality/mass hallucination Miami, until someone mentioned japanese bacterial warfare was mentioned in the Three.
I still do not know what happened to Bin...he wandered off into the apocalypse and died presumably.
Elspeths book never having been published but on Xaviers kindle was a nice touch.
Helen no longer wanting to die because of knowing there was not the afterlife she necessarily imagined was poignant.
The ex policeman having a happy ending of sorts or at least closure.
but where are the four interviewees being held, by whom and for how long...that was the really scary part.....
END OF SPOILERS
