Do I need to read this before reading The Year of the Flood? I only ask because I'm half way through ...flood!
I'm feeling so annoyed that I didn't realise it was the second in a trilogy, but despite this I am enjoying it.
So do I:
1: keep reading Flood and possibly read Oryx after.
Or
2: Stop flood and start Oryx. Then go back to flood?

It's sooooo annoying!

If I recall, the books are broadly running in parallel, time-wise. Oryx and Crake tells the story from the perspective of a male protagonist. Lots of readers said they would have been interested to hear the story from a female perspective, so Margaret Atwood wrote After the Flood. It's a while since I read them (in the 'right' order), but I think they can be read separately.

Jed thank you! I'm going to keep going with The Year of the Flood then. I'm really enjoying it so will probably read Oryx after.
Have you read MaddAddam?

Flood is better than O & C (which I hated). Personally, I'd finish reading Flood and not bother with O & C at all!

I agree Remus.

(that Flood is better)

Oooh, I loved O&C! But I think it's not necessary to read them in a particular order.

Thanks Grin I'm feeling much better about reading out of order now. I've almost finished flood so will see if the library has O & C. If it doesn't I don't think I'll be too bothered.
I've absolutely loved Flood!

I agree - After the Flood is just so much better than Oryx and Crake. Maddadam is worth reading as the story follows on from After the Flood. It's not quite as polished as ATF but still good. I think you would need to have read ATF to enjoy Maddadam.

After the Flood is my absolute favourite book ever - if you read O&C after it, you'll just find some bits kind of slot into place a bit more.

MaddAddam is good but very different - it took a couple of reads for me to get into it properly.

Thanks for all the replies Smile
The library have O & C and MaddAdam so I'll be getting them both this week. I was a bit Hmm at how Flood just...ended. It seemed very abrupt after all the drama. I then remembered that there's another one
