Please recommend some gems for my Xmas wishlist

I'm looking for some ideas for my Christmas wishlist. I like well written non fiction for readers who aren't expert in anything, the sort of thing that's as good to read as fiction. I often like pop science, such as earlier Richard Dawkins before he went extremist, jared diamond, pop genetics like Steve Jones. The book I most enjoyed this year was Henry marsh's do no harm. I liked Fermat's last theorem and drunkards walk, all approachable and good reads, don't want anything more difficult as although I mostly followed them at the time I've now forgotten everything! I've got a couple of John gribbins on the shelf looking too much like hard work!

Probably not celebrity biography but have enjoyed some biographies including approachable Claire tomalins such as Mrs Jordan's profession and john lanchester's family romance.

So please inspire me for my Xmas list!

If you are even slightly interested in the Falklands War, military history, aviation or history, may I suggest Down South by Chris Parry?
