No point putting this in Baby Names.

Just had a healthy scan at 13+1. Would LOVE to use a GH name as both DSs "coincidentally" have GH first names.

Here's a list. Which do you think are even remotely useable? We have a very plain surname starting in J- and I have removed the DCs we already have.

Barbara, Harriet, Hester, Helen (Nell), Serena, Léonie, Prudence, Horatia, Phoebe, Cressida, Anthea, Venetia, Henrietta, Sophia, Judith, Sarah, Annis, Mary, Drusilla, Arabella, Diana, Cleone, Penelope, Frederica, Abigail, Katherine (Kitty or Kate), Deborah, Elinor, Ancilla, Hero, Jenny

Justin, Sylvester, Adolphus, Dominic, Ivo, Vernon, Julian, Jack, Ashley, Marcus, Gervase, Giles, Anthony, Frederick, Edward, Jasper, Hugh (Hugo), Charles, Waldo, Gareth, Tristam, Richard, Philip, Christopher (Kit), John, Robert, Miles, Max

The boys list is truly horrendous in places, isn't it!

FOAF named her baby girl Charis after Frederica's sister, which is rather nice.

Kitty/Kit would go well with the DSs' names, a lot of them are a bit OTT compared to their names or aren't a good 'fit' IMO.

For a girl, Harriet, Nell, Sarah, Elinor and Penelope would also work.

I love Jasper (obviously!) but I don't think it would 'go'. Richard, Edward, Gareth (I am bizarrely fond of the name Gareth) or Robert would be my vote for a boy.

Or Alverstoke, known as Al? Grin I hate the fact that such a brilliant hero has such a dreadful Christian name but Al could work!!

If I'd ever had a DD, she would have been a Venetia! Blush

Miles and Max would work too, but there are gazillions of Max's in schools ATM. Same with Abigail.

Missed John off the boys' list as well.

I am identical with Leonie's long list, though not sure about Leonie...

Hugh and Hugo and Hester and Harriet are prob my favourites, with Horatia.

Not Hero.

But I love Venetia.

Anthony will become Tony, do you mind?

No to Ancilla, Abigail, Drusilla. Nor Sylvester. Nor the other ones Leonie dislikes.

I like Cleone but everyone will.think she is Chloe unless you are v v posh.

There are too many Jacks and Maxs round us.

Congrats, and you will tell us, please , Horry? If we are very very nice?

Brilliant idea Grin

I love Georgette actually, and from the girls I particularly like Venetia, Henrietta and Leonie.

For a boy I really like Kit, Tristram, Jasper and Gareth. (and Sylvester Blush)

I love how much you are getting into this.

Knew you'd all be name geeks too Grin

I think there's a decent shortlist available even without considering the shelf of baby names book s.

Anthony is DH's disliked uncle so it is not a likely choice for us Grin

My dd's middle name is Deborah, I would have loved to call her Venetia.

So for a Girl Venetia, for a boy it has to be Christopher (Kit)

Report
YorkshireTeaDrinker · 30/04/2013 09:09

Oh yes, Venetia. I would have loved to use it for my DD, but DH issued a veto.

I vote for Kit, Giles or Jasper for a boy.

Report
VenetiaLanyon · 30/04/2013 09:16

I'd have liked:

Venetia (unsurprisingly)
Arabella
Phoebe
Cressida
Hero

All were sadly vetoed by DH...

But why Kit and not Kester? I actually know a Kester (my age, so 40s) and he really is named for GH, how cool is that :)

Anyway, your names:

Girls - I would say yes definitely to:
Harriet, Hester, Helen (Nell), Serena, Henrietta, Judith, Sarah, Mary, Arabella, Diana, Cleone, Frederica, Abigail, Katherine (Kitty or Kate), Deborah, Elinor, Hero, Jenny

My favourites are Harriet, Hester, Nell, Henrietta (nn Hetty) and Hero (DD's name doesn't start with an H - I don't like H names so much in Spanish - so I think everyone else should use them!)

Boys - yes to
Justin, Dominic, Ivo, Ashley, Marcus, Giles, Anthony, Frederick, Edward, Hugh (Hugo), Charles, Gareth, Tristam, Richard, Philip, Christopher (Kit), John, Robert, Miles, Max

My favourites of your boys list are Dominic (I've only ever met nice ones), Ivo (just cool) and Frederick but only if he is a Freddy

This wasn't exactly a "tell me what to name my unborn" but rather "can I keep a sly GH theme and get a great name?" to which the answer appears to be yes. Hurrah!

I haven't spoken to DH about specific names, no. He would get name fatigue this early.
