hello,

I have PCOS, an underactive thyroid and 3 dc and my weight and waist line reflect this!
I've been dieting using SWorld for last 4 weeks and only lost 4lbs.
Anyone failed on SW but succeeded on WW?
Feeling Sad about it at the moment.

Is that not about the normal weightloss/time expected? Have you spoken to the person who takes the class?

Ooops meant 3lbs loss 2.5lbs in first week, 0.5lbs in second none in last two. I have about 4 stone to lose, at this rate I'll never get there!

I wouldn't have expected it to tail off like that. There's a Slimming World thread on here, but I can't link, am on phone. Maybe more advice there.

Thanks,

Could have sworn at the woman on the scales who said, 'well done, you've maintained your weight loss!'

Know she was trying to be nice but not what I needed to hear!

I have PCOS, SW didn't work for me in fact I put on. I have lost 15.5lbs since February at WWs though.

Ooh thanks MagnaCharge. Do you think it's a carb thing? Any tips?

I think it was the sugars in fruit and veg. I can't seem to process that much. I think I was eating the wrong 'super free' foods for me.

Thanks Magnacharge. That's really interesting as I've been eating loads of fruit so felt I should have lost more.

Hi scaredo- I understand about your problems. I have under active thyroid and weight loss is really slow. I lost 10lb with sw and it took me nearly 6 months. I am on wk2 of ww and feel slimmer, wi today.if sw is suiting your life style stick at it, but I would watch the 'free' food/portions, especially the fruit it has calories and sugars.

I would strongly suggest you have a quick look at BIWI's low carbing threads. I lost three stone last year without really having to work at it at all, and I feel a million times better for it. It's so easy to navigate it only takes a few days for all cravings to go and suddenly the weight starts melting away. Well worth a try if you haven't tried it before. And low carbing has sorted out lots of imbalances in my body too.

If I can do it anyone can.

There's also a very supportive team that will really help with motivation and encouragement.

There's a boot camp running at the moment, you still have time to join up.

I couldn't express how happy I am with what it's done for me physically and emotionally.

Slimming world didn't work for me as my problem is portion control so being able to eat a huge bowl of pasta free on a green day was never going to work (for me, mums lost loads on it).

Weight Watchers teaches you about portion control and I lost a couple of stone before falling pregnant (had to stop for the moment but will be back on it once baby arrives) good luck

Portion control isn't enough if carbs is the issue, though, and it doesn't matter if they're the 'good' carbs either, so yes the fruit is probably an issue.

It's quite likely your body just can't process carbs very well at the moment. Low carbing will sort that out without you ever feeling deprived.

The four months I spent losing three stone have sorted out a long term problem with blood glucose and a host of secondary issues such as fatigue, brain fog, tummy probs etc.

At least come and read a couple threads and see what you think. There are people who are brilliant at explaining the scientific evidence behind it, and lots who are starting to see losses now during boot camp.

Best wishes Smile

I found that my carb intake was massively reduced by ww though as high carb stuff is very 'pointy' so you can't eat much of it, if you eat it at all. I pretty much gave up bread, pasta etc and substituted for loads of veg and salad along with sensible sized portions of protein.

I guess the difference is that if I wanted something carb heavy I could have it (even though it made me feel sluggish afterwards) but then had to adjust the rest of my food that day accordingly, which I preferred to a blanket 'low carbs' with no exceptions for eating out etc. I used the iPhone app rather than going to meetings so made it easy to track what I ate, and check the points in something when shopping.

Different things work for different people, I also find if I don't up my exercise a lot (I have my own horse so am fairly active anyway) then I struggle to drop weight regardless of what I eat so need to get my butt down the gym a few times a week too for any significant loss.

Good luck anyway op, hope you find something that works for you.

Oh absolutely it can definitely work and many people do very well on WW or other similar programmes as you can testify to.

It becomes more difficult, though, when the body is so finely attuned that even a small amount of carbs sets off the very severe blood sugar spikes and crashes that cause those cravings we're all so familiar with. The constant cycle of trying to resist and failing to do so is horrible to navigate, and you often don't get much return for the effort which can be so disheartening. Individuals have vastly different thresholds for carb intake so what works for one person will set off terrible spikes for someone else and ultimately cause yet another 'failure'.

Oh and yes, OP, good luck with whatever method you choose Smile

I have PCOS and slimming world didn't work for me either! I didn't know I had it at the time.

WW did work but that was back when it was the original plan I don't know what this new plan they do is like as it sounds more similar to SW now??

Low GI and low carb have worked better but is still a struggle.
