What's a good MAN diet book?

Is there such a thing? Dh now wants to loose three stone, knows what healthy eating is, but - given that he's a man, and doesn't read lady-mags, or chat about this stuff over drinks - doesn't know calorie content of things. It would need to be quite easy, chatty and business-like, I guess. All the books I have - Gillian McKeith, Superfoods - would make him FURIOUS. They're too girly.

Dh really likes the Collins Gem Calorie Counter when he's doing one of his yo yo diets. It becomes his bible and he gets really boring about it.

Mind you, not sure how much of a recommendation this is given that he never manages to keep it up for any length of time.

DH is doing low carb, high protein, seeing personal trainer 4 times a week....the trainer does the diet and nutrition thing with him..lost over a stone in 5 weeks and really got in shape...

Is he really up for it (losing the weight)? Only that dh constantly bleats on about losing his extra 2 stone then eats massively calorific restaurant food on his trips away, sits in the pub drinking and eats chocolate when he comes home and then seems to be surprised when he's still the same weight .

Strangely enough, I did look at some books for dh but a lot of them are, I dunno, a bit lame or twee. I've heard other people say the Food Doctor Diet Club book was good but I've not looked at it myself.

Otherwise, mags like Men's Health tend to have weight loss stuff in them a fair bit but I've never read them so I don't know how useful the advice is. I think it's vaaar difficult if he is man who travels or goes out a fair bit for his job. For some reason, I think men feel under even more pressure to eat big meals and drink than women do.

actually, I am going to look in the book shops this week for a book for dh so if I see a good one, I'll post back on here.

When DH needed to lose some weight my friend was going to Slimming World, so I borrowed her book and basically followed that diet (thought not as religiously as if we were going to weigh-ins!)
It was really easy to explain to him and most things aren't restricted in the amount you can have, just how you combine them(ie carbs/protein).
Keep meaning to start again - we both keep saying we need to lose weight!

Didnt Nigel Lawson write a book about losing weight?
he certainly went to the newspapers saying you just had to eat less! and inspired my mother to lose weight because she was so pissed off that Fatty Lawson had done it and she hadnt

I'd recommend either Low Carb/High Protein diets (Atkins or Charles Clark) or GI/GL ones (Rick Gallop, Nigel Denby, Anthony Worrall Thompson et al).

I found The Greek Doctor's Diet a good handy book.
