My DH is a low fat high carb man. I work best on LFHC. Ive tried to accommodate both our food types in menu planning but it hasn't worked as I've put on 3 stone since we got married and DH has started muttering about losing some weight now.

What sort of diet would you recommend? I don't want to have a load of carbs lying around the house as i end up eating them and sabotaging my own efforts. But there is no way DH would succeed on an Atkins or Dukan type of diet which i thrive on.

Help please!!

Slimming world gives you a lot of flexibility and the benefits of group support. Would you consider going to a group like that?

I would and i have - but it was a hard slog for me. The last group i went to was a disaster as the leader would display the carby ready meals with their syn value and these would send me mad! I'd never think about eating crap like that. Its always "if I don't see it I don't want it" type of thing but if I see it it, I want it. Moan, moan, moam!

Download my fitness pal and calorie count. Could you not have the same types of meals but with different portion amounts so you have mostly meat and just a few of the carbs but he could have more of the carbs with his.

To be honest, I have always found losing weight a strictly personal thing. There have been times when my husband has made an effort to lose a few pounds, but that's been completely independent of me. I would hate to have him looking over my shoulder at what I'm eating, and I'd go any way around to avoid doing that to him. Since I've been calorie counting, we largely eat separately, which is a bit inconvenient, but it works for us.

When we do cook/eat together, and this might work for you, we often have a meal with a distinct carb component, which I can skip. Eg: veggie burgers with salad... Burger bun for him; Tagine... Couscous for him; curry... Rice for him.

I have similar as my DP eats lots of carbs, which are deadly for me. The key is to make meat/fish/protein + green veg - & lots of it - & then provide him with extra carbs, but just enough for him.
It takes willpower though, as it means you have the carbs sitting around tempting you.

If you write down your goals, picture them, research them (the benefits, health improvements etc) really get it in focus.... then the will power will come. It ebbs and flows though so this research and mindfulness needs to be a constant thing!
