Back in april I joined a local gym and got advice from my instructor to use MFP and add her as a friend so she could advise me on my diet. Progress has been slow but I have lost a stone and now weight loss has stopped. I am working out 3-4 times a week in various classes now (was in the gym to start with) but my instructor says that when I have earned extra calories exercising I need to "eat them".
Surely I need to burn more calories than I eat to lose weight?
Any advice is welcome Smile

I would stop eating the calories that you have "gained" through exercise. I would try that for a week and see if you lose. Maybe look at recalculating how many calories you need to be on to lose 1-2lb a week. If you have lost a stone then you will need to eat less calls to continue to lose.
Hth, keep going!

Don't eat them back, or at least not all of them. I find MFP massively overestimates exercise calories.

By a heart rate monitor and eat them back, or at least two thirds of them.

If you have 1500 calories on MFP, eat them all and then go to the gym and burn 500, your total calorie intake is only 1500. It's too little.
If you eat back the 500 you burn, your daily total is still only 1500, so you will lose.

I have lost almost two stone using MFP, a good heart rate monitor and eating my excercise calories.

An option if you don't want to eat back calories is work out your TDEE using a calculator (Google) and set your exercise level accordingly when you work it out. You should be classed as 'active' I would assume. The TDEE calculator will give you a figure to stick to daily, whether you exercise that day or not.

Total calorie intake is only 1000* my first post should say. Sorry, feeding baby and have fat fingers!

How tall are you? What do you weigh at the moment? Are you bf or ff (hoping ff, as doesn't sound enough for bf). Have you tried tdee to get an idea of calories needed. 1000 doesn't sound like enough unless you are tiny, are you weighing everything/scanning everything you eat? It is very easy to go back to a lot of calories when you stop measuring.

I also find mfp overestimates calories from exercise. If you eat half of them back, you should still lose. Do you have a pedometer like a Fitbit or similar? I found having one made me much more generally active and really helped with weight loss.

Sadly, I haven't found anything that removes my love of food so I'm still a fatty...
