10,000 steps a day challenge. Anyone want to join me?

I've been trying to lose weight and also get a bit healthier. I've lost about a stone and a half, would ideally like to lose another one and a half. Have been trying to eat healthier and loosely following slimming world. I'm at a bit of a standstill weight wise so I thought I'd aim to increase my exercise see if I can shift some more weight that way.

So yesterday I bought a pedometer and I am going to aim for 10,000 steps a day. I'll also try to combine this with other exercise when I can.

Today so far I've done 7000. Would anyone like to join me and check in with progress or encouragement? Smile

I'm 5:2ing and that's working great for me at the moment.

My DH is doing a charity trek in late Spring so, even though we have a dog that gets walked twice a day, we have been deliberately going on much longer, harder and faster walks.

I must have got really slow and lazy with the dog as the first sub hour, 4 miler we did the other day made all my joints ache. It's about 7500 steps according to my pedometer, and coupled with my other walks and general pottering about, I've been doing about 12,000 a day for a week now. I can really see the difference in my thighs already and I've managed to knock 9 minutes off the time in a week.

That's brilliant, sounds like you have been doing really well!

I've only done just over 8000 today so I've realised I will have to up my game tomorrow. I'm in for the night now, but I might walk around the house and up and down the stairs a few times! Grin

It has made me more aware of my walking today, which can only be a good thing!

I'll join you :)

I recently got a fitbit. I didn't realise how little I moved!

I now march on the spot whilst washing up and cooking Grin

I also walk round the living room whilst watching tv. Every little helps Wink

Great, welcome aboard! Grin

It is a fitbit I have too, I like that it links up to my phone. I ended yesterday with 8367 and that was a bit of walking on the spot and going up and down the stairs at home a few times!

I am at work just now, so will try to move about more and get away from my desk now and again and see if I can improve on yesterday.

Well I made the 10,000 target yesterday (with some walking around the house!!). Not quite so hopeful today, as I've mainly housework planned, but will see how it goes! Smile

I have a fitbit too! I need to make sure I'm doing 10,000 steps a day so I'm in. Should we add each other on fitbit too?

I did almost 14,000 steps at work today. It was a long day!

Is there an app for that?
off to search.

I'm a fitbit owner too, so count me in on the '10,000 steps a day' club.

Fwiw, I did a hybrid aerobic pilates class yesterday (am so sore today!), that didn't even register on the 'very active minutes' tally. Seemed a bit unfair to have expended so much energy and not get any 'credit' for it!

Did you all manage your steps yesterday?

I had to walk around a bit before bed to walk sure I had done enough but I got there.
Day off work today so have to actually go for a walk i guess. Hopefully it stops raining!

Can I join in too? I have had my Fitbit since last August, but have only really been using it properly along with MyfitnessPal since Jan.

I don't very often get to the 10,000 steps a day, but any encouragement will help!
Only managed 5,437 yesterday so my aim is to beat that today.

I've only managed 10,000 steps twice I think so far Blush. Really going to up it from today.

I've also got a fitbit - iy was a Christmas present. Since getting it, I've been pootling along with a target of 5,000 a day.

Recently thinking about trying for 10,000 a day, so count me in!

I think I did 10,000 yesterday but not absolutely sure. My fitbit registered 8200 at 17.00, and though I tried to get it to sync again before I went to bed last night, it never did. Not sure why.

When I lived in London, 10,000 steps a day was fairly easy because I walked most places. Now I live in a city with little (useful) public transportation, so I drive most places. Walking becomes a separate planned activity, which can be tricky to fit into a busy day.

I've just done a quick 4 mile walking workout on YouTube. I'm now up to 6970 steps so far today. Will make myself get over 10,000 today.

I have only managed to make the 10,00 steps once! I am mostly averaging between 7500-8,500. I am going to make a real effort today to make it. Grin

Iwasagnome hope you managed to dry your pedometer out!
Well I managed 6,213 yesterday so a slight improvement on Sunday, today is looking good as have already passed that count. If I carry on like this by the end of the week I may hit the 10,000!
Keep walking everyone.

I've only done 6,951 today but that's partly because my fitbit was charging this morning.

I left it charging overnight but it didn't charge, and I had to do the resetting with a pin thing.

Oh no, hope it dries out Iwas.

I have managed 13173 today, my best ever! I know there is no way I'll match that tomorrow! Feeling quite tired now! Grin

I've done 10,600 today. I usually can manage ten thousand when at work but on my days off i have to put in some real effort.

I know someone who lost three stone doing this and drinking lots of water, I'd forgotten about that until reading this! I might try it myself!

Well, I've just done 10,261 steps. Grin A trip to town this morning and a mile on the treadmill now.

It's harder than I thought it might be. Just show how much I don't move normally, I suppose.

I've done 10292 so far today. Finally reached 10,000 again Blush

Amazing my pedometer has dried out in the rice so pleased-yay!
I did walk down to town today , round the town and up the hill (phew!) back again so think that would have been 10,000 ok based on previous experience
See you all tomorrow
