Gastric Band Surgery

Hi I dont know if anybody is about this time of night.

What would happen if I went to my Docs and asked about Gastric Band Surgery?

I am 42 and 5ft 1 I weigh about 21 stone. So my BMI is about 55.

I have had trouble losing weight the last few years, I lose a few stone and get depressed that it makes no difference to how I look or the way my clothes fit, that I just put it all back on again (and more)

I know its not the easy way out but it has got to be better than this.

I think they only do gastric bypass on the NHS ( not 100% sure will have to google it), I think it's good your asking for help if you haven't asked the doctors about this before there is lots they can offer you. Eg diet advice, sure start healthy life prog, medication, nurse consults. I think the first step is going to see them and take it from there. Good luck

Get all the information you can. If the Dr. thinks it is an option, (in the States) usually you have to have proof you tried a medically supervised diet for at least 6 months.
You defiantly want all the information and options before you before you make any plans. Bypass is a more complex procedure and has some issues with mal-absorption.
Pretty sure most Dr. will tell you this, it won't be something you can jsut decide to do in a short time.
Good Luck.

Some NHS areas offer it, some don't. Some make you jump through months of hoops to prove your commitment.

I've had weight loss surgery. I don't regret it, but it's. been hard. I'd say it does
20% of the work, I have to do the rest. It works best for helping maintain any losses you might have. Would recommend extensive research on all the options. I did not ho through NHS but found my.GP very supportive.
