Im to get hitched next year and I REALLY want a 50's vintage inspired tea / ankle length style wedding dress. I'd like it to have a lace overlay at the top with 3/4 length sleeves (to hide a hideous tattoo, regrettably acquired during a daft rebellious phase in my teens blush)

The only problem is I've scoured that t'internet til my eyes bleed! I can only find really expensive ones or very cheap ones that have to be ordered abroad from such places as China. I don't think Im brave enough to have it made abroad, which will also probably be stitched in subsiding crumbling factories by hungry children barely out of the womb(!), so I'd rather a British based shop/designer please.

I particularly love designs by Brighton based dressmaker Joanne Fleming, her collection is absolutely out of this world! But shes grown in popularity in recent years, and her dresses have shot up in price, averaging at around £1500. I particularly LOVE the designs based on her 'Annie' dress (pics attached)

I really want to find something similar in style but a tad cheaper, preferably under the £1k mark. Can anyone help....Im so desperate Im considering just turning up in a Primarni number!

Thanks xxx

Hi,

If you're in Yorkshire, have you tried this one in Beverley?

I was told that tea dresses are not very popular, so a lot of places don't stock them. I managed to get mine from here, and they have a lot of discount dresses, so much less than £1500.

Alternatively, have you tried contacting a local dressmaker and seeing what it would cost for them to make one? They wouldn't be able to copy the design exactly, but if you went with an idea I bet it would be cheaper than the £1,500.

Good luck Grin

I had a dress very similar to what you want when I got married last month. It was the Audrey Hepburn dress by Sharon Bowen. I had a sweetheart neckline and halterneck added. Have you considered getting one custom made? If you're near Sheffield, Amie B did my alterations and also makes dresses from scratch for £500 - £1000. She's amazing.

Mooshki 'Grace' sounds like it would fit the bill. My sister has loads of tats and has worn it when modelling at a wedding fair, it looked amazing on her. Mooshki are UK based, too.

I'm having a 50 style dress made to measure from a local dress shop. £400 (any alterations about 50 extra). It's worth looking at local shops if you haven't decided on something yet.

Oh and I'm a size 18/20. So lots of material!

I am looking for the same for my wedding and think I'm going with Honeypie Boutique, one of the strapless styles with one of these lace tops over it -
