Guest wearing white

Just got back from a best friends wedding.
The day was perfect.

One of her guests (another good friend), wore white.

White shoes, skirt and top.

Is this still frowned upon?

I think is bad form, and unfortunatly the lady in question is a bit of a drama queen and likes to be the centre of attention, so the more drinks she had the more lairy she got which certainly put a bad feeling about the place towards the end.
But that's another story

It's a bit bizarre, I can't see why you'd wear all over white to a formal wedding?

Attention seeking much?

Someone did it at my wedding. Unfortunately, because of where they were sat in church, they were the first person I saw when I arrived. I was quite cheesed off and a lot of other people expressed their surprise at her choice both on the day and subsequently.

paperpompom Are you me? I had the exact same experience at my wedding.

Me too. It was a very glamorous girlfriend of one of dh's colleagues who wore a white body con dress over her very curvy body and an enormous floppy white hat...

My db's MIL wore white to his wedding. And spritzed the bride with her (MIL's) eau de toilette just before the ceremony.

Unsurprisingly, she later became db's ex-MIL.

No way should you wear all-over white to a traditional wedding.

My MIL wore white to mine....

It's really bad!

A relative of mine wore a GORGEOUS silver designer dress to get married. She looked incredible. Didn't have any bridesmaids. Her best friend, who helped her choose the dress, turned up in the exact same colour and bleated on to anyone who would listen about how much better she looked than the bride. Some people just can't cope with not being the centre of attention for 5 seconds.

A guest at our wedding wore a knee-length white lace dress. But to be fair I was having such a lovely time I didn't notice/realise until I saw the photos!

What is wrong with some people? Don't wear white to a wedding! End of!

A work colleague's mil wore her own wedding dress to her wedding. Seriously. I didn't believe her until she showed me her wedding album.
It wasn't a big princess style dress, but it still looked very odd!

I cannot believe someone wore her own wedding dress to a wedding, why would you do that??

The op could have been written about my sister at my brother' s wedding, and the mine. She can.not bear not to.be the centre of attention. Ironically, neither sil or I wore white, but DSis didn' t know that beforehand.

At my first wedding, the best man's DW wore white and a big white floppy hat. She managed to stand next to me or behind me in a lot of the photos! Odd.

I did once years ago.. I was pregnant and had this lovely white top and loose trousers. I didn't find out till years later that it was frowned upon.. I simply didn't know. It was my first wedding as an adult.

I was mortified to think of the hushed conversations behind my back.

I know now though Grin

I've done it too Blush. I swear to god I didn't know it wasn't the done thing! It was a cream dress in fairness. With little flowers all over it. And the bride was utterly radiant in another colour. But I cringe in shame every time I think of it.

MairzyDoats, I've worn a cream dress too, & the bride wore cream Blush

but I didn't know the rule, & I didn't know the bride would be in cream

nobody said anything to me but to this day I wonder what might have been whispered...

It seems to be a common, deliberate mistake by many women to upstage the bride/ DIL judging by this thread below:

I've told this story many times, but it never gets old. MIL and SFIL turned up to our wedding in their wedding outfits AND then took off with our photographer for the professional shots they didn't bother paying for in their day.

Someone wore white at my wedding. Bless her it was rather short and when she bent over infront of the top table we could see everything Shock

My mum pointed out to dh and I pointed it out to my dad Blush

I remember going to an Indian wedding once and the bride wore a red sari. The grooms sister wore a deep pink sari that was only slightly different to the bride. In fact, with all the make up etc, I couldn't tell them apart.

Needless to say, the marriage didn't last long and the poor bride got a particularly hard time from the sil. Very telling!!!!

At my sisters wedding, the mother of the flower girl wore a white dress with a white fascinator, complete with little veil.

She just looked ridiculous

My brother's ex (my neice's mother) wore a white dress to my wedding. At the time she was still very in love with my brother and was dropping massive hints. I didn't really notice too much at the time but my friends were all talking/ laughing about it.

My BIL's girlfriend wore a long white dress to my wedding. Seemed to annoy my friends and family more than it did me, but when I think about it now it really bugs me. :)
