here

looks like there may be a deep low crossing the UK Monday bringing potentially gale or even severe gale force winds to northern England and Scotland. of course the track and development are uncertain at this point but if it comes off it could potentially quite damaging. One to watch.

Models are still very variable this morning on how far they deepen the low and therefore also the track. Still very very much worth watching if you are in the northern UK.

Typical, we have the infants sports day on Tuesday!

I think at the moment tuesday day time looks ok for you manky, :) In general the risk seems to be concentrated on Monday.

warnings upgraded Met office are warning about the potential of storm force winds. Blimey. At this time of year it could be a bit rough on trees! (to say the least)

The possible storm was just mentioned on r4 weather now (I think - had half an ear on it)

I think it was just on the BBC News Channel weather as "potential" and "keep and eye on" too.

I think it was on the weather after the early evening Beeb news this evening.

How far south might they reach?

EW - it atually could be pretty gusty right across the uk - gusts to 40/50mph. At the moment the most damaging gusts look I think to be western Scotland (if it comes off as it may - 80mph possible!) i think that the core of very very strong winds looks quite tight, so it depends on the track really. People in Northern England and Walesought to stay aware of the forecast too.

Tether those trampolines!

warnings have been updated the worst winds seem to probably concentrate around SW Scotland but NI, and Northern england as well as much of Scotland should be very much aware. If the storm develops as the met office think it may then the winds would be very much capable of bringing down trees and causing structural damage. Risk is for much of tomorrow. Take care!

Is it going to blow the ash from today's Icelandic volcanic eruption towards or away from European airspace?

Quite possibly.

I've put the support tie back round the tree we put in last summer - it was whipping about something awful, so I think it needs a bit of coddling overnight Grin

Good plan! We tied my poor sweet peas up after they blew over and its only gusting around 25-30mph I reckon down here.

No flash warnings yet but I expect to see them occur. Keep an eye on this page for latest met office warnings.

According to this observations page we are having gusts of 44 mph. Woodford is not too far from where i am.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 23/05/2011 12:30

We are getting up to around 40mph down here in the south. The leaves on the trees are making it sound more exciting and blowy than it is. Very very drying though for the soil/plants.

This afternoon and evening the winds will really pick up in southern scotland and parts of northern England.

Glen Ogle (well known for high recorded gusts but perhaps not at this time of year?) has a gust of 77mph recorded.
