Weaning

So is my Health Visitor talking crap?

DS has lost a lot of weight over the past month due to norovirus (75th to 35th centile in 5 weeks) and HV suggested it might be time to wean him (he's 25 weeks, and I'd been thinking about it anyway).

I asked about follow-on milk which she said was for babies who need extra vitamins because their diets are bad. She said that from now on the food becomes more important than the milk - I thought babies still got the majority of their nutrition and calories from milk up until the age of 1.

Who is right? I don't want to have to really stuff him full of food - wanted to do BLW and I don't think he's quite ready. Tell me she's crazy!

he can carry on having regular formula

milk is still the main source of nutrition for the first year. and if he has been poorly, and had a bad tummy, then introducing food might not be the best thing.. you can do BLW and let him guide you and make sure he gets lots and lots of milk.,

babies don;t suddenly get to 6 months and have to have 3 meals a day

wean when you and he are ready, no harm waiting a bit if you want to !

I knew I was right. Blimey, it's awful that they're out there putting bad information around. Thanks for putting me straight.

So when can I stop sterilising and boiling the water? Is that 6 months or 12?
