Weaning

<sob> My BLW baby has decided all he wants to eat is mush! What exciting mushy foods can I make?

I don't mind so much really, he grabs the spoon and mostly does it himself anyway. Plus I think it is a teething thing mostly, easier on the old gums. I'm just at a loss as to what to make him! Just for main meal stuff, he still eats his fruit whole and accepts cheese on toast or pancakes.

So far we like:

Most veg with cream cheese
carrot and potato

Do people literally puree 'normal' meals? Have done spag bol mushed up but most things just seem like they would be horrible!

And I so thought he was getting to the stage where he really could cope with anything!

Yes, you can puree 'normal' meals. We used to put a Sunday roast all together and puree it! It gets them used to loads of different flavours.

Tuna,spinach and tomato based pasta
Tuna and sweetcorn in a cheese sauce pasta
Savoury mince and rice or pasta or mash
Baked beans and sweet potato

It probably is a teething stage. Don't worry if not much is getting eaten, just try to keep it balanced with milk. If he likes to use the spoon himself then try doing that with him. Also offer the foods you know will get eaten while he is teething.

i wouldn't puree it, but deffo mush it so it'll stick on the spoon more and he can get it on his fingers easier. dd went through a phase of chewing more on her fingers than food, i recall. poor thing.

Coolio cheers people.

Have been offering known faves but his diet of organix sweetcorn rings and tomato was getting a bit much!

Will attempt to mush and let him use his hands rather than puree. Trouble is he can do finger food fine when in the mood (just at the moment he screams at it) and puree, yoghurt etc fine but mush that isn't pureed he gets confused by. Not smooth enough to just swallow but not lumpy enough to chew in his book so it just sits in his mouth then he throws a paddy. Daft child and things like mashed potato which I have made into nice small person sized potato cakes are far more fun to play with than eat.

Ah well I shall do puree with bits of pasta and brocolli trees etc on the side and hope he gets over it soon!

My mum says my favourite meal at 11 months was chicken madras and I'm planning on using this dal recipe once ds has hit 6 months but leave the salt out.

Is it worth putting a bit more on your plate so he can take what he wants from you as what mummy is eating is always more interesting than what they've been given.
