Pea problem

My DD (6.5 months) has taken a liking to peas, which is great, however AK suggests pressing them through a sieve or using a mouli to get rid of the outer layer which is apparently indigestible .

I find this pressing through a sieve a real bind as I don't have the patience to do it for long and so don't get much pea mush out in any case - is there an alternative? Can I just blend the peas in the usual way of other veg/fruit?

to be honest ds just ate them as finger food case and all, though he was slightly older when we introduced them never heard of the outer part being an issue

i never even bothered defrosting them, just stick em in a bowl and let her get on with it. [bad] when they get their pincer grip the whole pea thing becomes clear.

presumably with a special AK logo'd seive?

Seriously - dont bother.

Although if you do puree, then may I just pre-warn you, if they projectile vomit afterwards, you know, how babies do at inconvenient moments, pea-green vomit is really scary

AK clearly has got too much time on her hands!!

I used to cook a load of frozen peas, blitz with a hand blender then freeze in portions to jsut microwave as needed. No problems with outer layer, its not like frozen peas are tough anyway.

Ds was a bit older before he could manage them as a afinger food.

Just mash/blend them.
You are meant to get rid of the black pips from Kiwis but I only tried that for a few seconds and figured they were so small they couldn't do any harm.

Yes just blend the usual way.
Having peeled them first, of course (joke).

Fibre is meant to be indigestible

it is what helps food to pass through our system effectively

Yes, but thats too easy Franny

If we dont shell peas, we must peel grapes instead.......its our pennance for being perfect parents

Thanks everyone - I'm so glad that I can just blend the peas as many of you have suggested - life is too short to be doing that nonsense with sieves
