Continuing with Soya based formula til 2 years old?

Folks, I have just read the following an NHS publication called 'Birth to Five' with regard to vegetarian babies. On the topic of protein for vege babies in addition to pulses and quorn etc is suggests you should "continue with soya-based formula until your child is two years of age to ensure she/he has enough protein". Anyone got any thoughts here?
My daughter is 11 months, drinking soya- formula and predominantyl vege (as meat production methods in the UK are generally sub-standard and I'm too mean to by the decent stuff.).

DanE - are you sure soya formula is your only option? There are serious concerns about it, and its use is only advised for babies unable to to have regular formula (and as you are not vegan there would be no ideological objection, is that right?).

I actually thought soya milk is carcenogenic - is this right TikTok?

My ds went over to ordinary soya milk (sometimes the fortified one but other times not)at about 11 months, with a wide and varied mainly vegan diet (baring the odd bit of choclate or cheese) As long as she has grains pulses etc I'm sure she will be fine. Chickpeas/lentils etc are better that too much quorn or tvp cos it is v overprocessed. DS had no allergies so I was also able to give him cooked nuts from just over a year. People generally eat more protein than they actually need really

belgo - it's cariogenic, that's pretty certain (ie causes caries and rots the teeth - it has a massively high sugar content, which is there to make it any where near palatable).

I don't think anyone has suggested it's carcinogenic (cancer causing)...important distinction! But I may be wrong - have you read something about this?

There are concerns about the plant hormones (phytooestrogens) which some experts think may be harmful, and the high aluminium content.

I'm a bit confused about the "massively high sugar" thing. DD is on WySoy at the moment and according to the nutritional info that has 2.5g of sugar per 100ml reconstituted whereas normal Aptamil has 7.0g per 100ml. So that looks to me like WySoy has significantly less sugar.... what am I missing?

WySoy has glucose, Gloria, whereas regular formula milks have the naturally-present milk sugar, lactose . Regular formula milk has no glucose - and it's this in soya formula that does the dental damage. Glucose syrup is the main ingredient in the powder version of WySoy - obviously when made up, water is the main ingredient.

Gloria - should add this is not gonna be a problem if a baby doesn't have a lot of bottles after the teeth come through, and especially not the 'all day' bottle for swigging from.
