Why do BF want to eat solids?

Was wondering why my BF baby would want to eat solids - if supply keeps up with demand why should be interested in eating solids? I can see if FF then there is a limit to how much milk you can give. She is 6 months and she little interest in food yet, SIL suggests cutting down on milk feeds to get her interested. Keep thinking a 6 month growth spurt may prompt interest. Why should they want to eat solids? Do they need solids - iron is in BM. Do you need to chew to speak? Will they be fussy eaters if you wean late?

My dd2 weaned at about the age of 11 months, with the help of BLW. She is now 19 months old, and is finally eating really well.

She had slightly low iron at the age of 16 months, because she lost interest in eating, and at that age, I don't think breastmilk contains enough iron.

BTW, she said her first words at the age of 9 months, so that obviously wasn't anything to do with chewing.

I was told by HV that the quality of BF deteriorates a little after 6 months. {Not sure how accurate this is}
It gets them used to experiencing new things. Quantity of food is not really too important at this stage, but prepares them for when they do need the nutrition of food later on. Habit is already established.
It is fun! For them and for you!

No, the quality of breastmilk doesn't deteriorate, it remains a wonderful source of nutrition. At some point however, the baby will need other sources of nutrition.

At six months, most infants, whether BF or FF, will be interested in solids. But if she's not, she's not. She'll reach out and grab something soon enough!

I mean to say, as well as the nutrition provided by bm.

Belgo - sounds about right from hv, I dont think I have been told many truths from her! Luckily, I kept bf anyway, just offer solids at 6mths too!
