When do u try sandwiches? Sorry if silly questions!! Anyone tried felafel, is pesto o.k, blah blah blah!??? Thanks again for all your help so far xxx

BTW, tried mashed potato today - hilarious!!

Pesto fine, but can make the pasta/gnocchi/whatever you're putting it on slippery, and thus harder to pick up.

Suggest starting with open sandwiches rather than full on ones, but as usual, the each baby is different rule still applies. DD has eaten sandwiches (but only if they contain jam) this week for the first time in 5 months (she's 1 next week).

You might find that fish fingers with the breadcrumbs removed (or home made fish fingers where the breadcrumb was never added ) the easiest to pick up at this age.

DD has had falafel and enjoyed, but watch the salt if not home made, as they can be quite high.

Meat - dd still tends to chuck around rather than eat, but she's only just getting 3rd and 4th teeth this week, and I do think that they might make a diff for this. Chicken livers are, however, nice and soft and milky tasting, as well as being packed with Good Stuff.

dd is 8, has had fish from 7 months, sandwiches from maybe 8 months.

dd enjoys salmon, tuna and haddock. with the salmon it's just fillets that i bake in foil and she has one with new potatoes. at first i'd break up the salmon, sort of big flakes the size of a small potato. now she can just do it herself. the tuna she usually gets in a toastie or as a quesadilla (2 tortillas, cheese and tuna and or peas, peppers, whatever really, melted). the haddock she has like the salmon or i flake it, mix it with mash potatoes and or peas or anything else i have, to make fish cakes.

sandwiches she pulls apart, so doesn;t matter if they're open or closed, she decides how she wants to eat it. she currently loves humous with grated carrot. mini pitta pockets make good out and about sandwiches.

Thanks again for ideas.
Can i quickly ask about poo?!!!
DD on BLW for ~3wks now. Has 4 bottles thru' the day, and i make sure she has about 4oz water. Obviously i expect her poo to firm up when on solids, but am not sure to what extent! Last few (every 2 days) been much thicker but still large and soft (yuck!), but today she passed 1 lump (still soft, but took a fair bit of effort to come out!) She doesn't seem uncomfortable and her belly not firm, so does this seem o.k.?
Don't expect anyone to be a poo expert, but in anyone's experience? Sorry to talk poo at lunchtime!!
BTW, daily food is mainly fruit/veg (esp. pear & nectarine), with 1 soldier of wholemeal bread in a.m. Occasional Babybel cheese, ricecakes. Ta xx

i was quite surprised how quickly dd's poos became 'proper' poos, as in..they roll off the nappy when i change her! they are usually the size of her fist, but squished. when i have seen her actually poo, like take the nappy off and then she poos, it's like a long sausage. then it gets squished if she's sitting. sometimes they're alarmingly big, but usually fist size. colourwise they are brown, not very dark or very light, maybe like coffee with a dash of milk, and rarely have undigested food in them, except courgette skin and sweetcorn kernels. is that enough detail?!

snort.... ds pooed out a green bean still intact yesterday.... greedy goblin doesn't chew!

dd still pooes out lots of ungigested stuff at 2 but then her digestive system is not in the best shape so probably not normal at her age.

except for going darker with bits of food in in the mornings ds's nappies are exactly the same, but due to dd's aformention crappy digestion he's gluten free and therefore not getting much fibre.

fish and meat go down really well with him... chunks of meat to suck on and chunks of fish to pulverise and lick of his fingers, lol

i'm still finding fruit and veg are the main elements of his diet, he doesn't have a huge amount of interest in breakfast so mostly just gets one meal a day which will be whatever we're having for dinner (not counting curry when he has some steamed veg)

his favourite is still spinich though..... very amusing seeing him shoveling handfuls of it in!
