Hello, i was just wondering are mums wenaing at the reccomended 6 months, or earlier?

My ds is 4 months and wakes up twice at night very hungry and drinks about 10 ounces.he also drinks 3-4 ounces every 2-3 hours. My mom-in-law says i should condsider weaning him.I thought we should wait till the recomemded 6 month age. Not sure what to do?

I weaned dd3 at 26 weeks

she also went through a hungry phase at about 4 months and I considered weaning her but didnt and she settled down after a week or so

26 weeks hun. Might just be a growth spurt, in which case the milk will have more calories anyway xXx

26 weeks ..if possible..

a spoon or two of puree at this stage won;t really make a massive difference......milk and more milk is more filling at this age.....they do tend to have a growth spurt around this age and feed more frequently...and then settle down again, as Enid has said

You will get most people saying follow 6 months (been WHO guidelines for over 10 years, not recent fad as many think!) and you'll also get people saying they weaned from 8 weeks and never did their one any harm (although problems may not show until adulthood).

Kellymom site is a good site and dispels the myths surrounding weaning e.g he's ready to wean as he looks at interest at our food and growth spurts being mistaken for need to wean.

I think your instinct to follow the much published research and advice of waiting until 26 weeks is spot on

your MIL is wrong .. ignore her .. current medical advice is to wait

its a growth spurt and hence your baby needs the calories he'll get from milk .. it will die down

follow your instincts

I weaned my LO at 6mths but he wasn't really sitting up all that well so the whole thing was a pain
I'd probably wait a bit longer next time

My dd also showed interest in food/waking earlier at about 4 mths. She seemed to go back into the old way of things after a few days.

We have however started to wean her now at 5 mths as Im going back to work in a few weeks and need to have her on them by then. This was agreed with my HV as sometimes its not practical to keep them til 26 weeks (as much as I would have liked to )
