Keeps getting sick - why?

Hello dd is 6.5mths and I have been weaning her for awhile now and she loved everything I gave her.

For the last month she has had cold after cold and her appetite has got less and less.

She normally has weetabix or a baby cereal, fruit puree, then lunch with yogurt and dinner with custard. I am bf and her feeds are irregular, she sometimes feeds 3 times between 7am and 7pm or 5 times! (She also bfeeds about 11pm and 3am - i cant get her to stop these... another thread)

For the last few days she keeps bringing up bits of her food and it smells if sick. Its not like vomit, i just change her bib and the next minute she has sick on it, you dont even hear it come. Its not much bit it comes in bits and drabs. Is thi just down to her cold?

I am worried that these colds will have an impact on her appetite now - will it return? Before she cried between mouthfuls now I can only manage about three spoons per feed. Should i stop offering her deserts (yogurts/fruit) etc.?

I'd lay off the food a bit and up the breastfeeds.
Best thing for her and packed full of antibodies.

At her age, milk is the most important food for her anyway. If she isnt keen on solids, dont worry about it - just give her adequate milk feeds. She will pick up her appetite again when feeling better.

The sicking up could be that, if she has been getting lots of colds - the muccous that she is swallowing.

Leave off solids for a day and see how she goes.

I would get her checked by the GP if she still sicking up stuff on a regular basis.

Do you mean no offer her any food at all?

Just bf?

Just for a day?

Yes, worth a try - you might have to b/feed more than usual, but if she's not interested in food and keeps sicking it up - leave it off for a day or two.

hi lovecloud,
i do baby led weaning, which basically means that the baby picks up the food herself and eats it. i've noticed that if she is off colour she goes right off her food, to a ridiculous degree, and just refuses to pick things off her highchair tray. this is all fine, really, she's just indicating that she would prefer milk for a few days.
so that's what we do, really. we keep offering her plain things such as porridge pancakes and roast chicken (her favourites) and when she grabs them we know she's better.

she's 11 months, so as everyone's already said she's still getting her calories from milk anyway. (i've always found that fact to be a great comfort when she doesn't want to eat...)
there's a recipe for the porridge pancakes here , look in the recipes section or use the search box to find them.

DS did this a lot and I cut out cheese and yoghurt and it got better - the puke always seemed to stink of yoghurt which was a good clue. Maybe leave out the yoghurts for a while and see if it makes a difference??
