Weaning

Dealing with widely differing views on weaning and an opinionated MIL!

So ds3 is 22w, ebf. 5w early weighing 5lb4oz, now around 13lb10.

DP has been hovering about with jars of crap baby food for weeks and constantly wants to force that ridiculous baby juice stuff into him.

I am quite happy that ds is feeding well and gaining weight and I give him small tastes of bits and bobs. He isn't an easy baby- very demanding and has been from day 1 but MIL is adamant that 'it's wrong' is always saying that he's hungry and tells DP this.

So, how do I get DP to understand that the amount of weight he's put on shows that he's definitely not hungry, nor is there anything wrong... Basically how do I get a mummies boy to tell his mother to butt out and stop undermining me!

Get a note from the hv in your red book along the lines of "weight gain normal, wean as per nhs guidelines"? Sure they'd oblige! GrinSmile

Find appropriate websites eg nhs and educate DH.

Cite the NHS guidelines not to wean before 6 months? To be honeat though, you just have to stick to your guns and develop a thick skin! Good luck.

As Littlef00t says, educate him! If he hasn't looked into it, how is he to know that his DM is wrong? They can be very persuasive :)

Our health visitors run weaning workshops if there is something similar maybe take him to one so he can be educated?

You shouldn't even be giving him "bits and bobs" yet!

Both MIL and my mother were going on about baby rice and trying to get us to feed DS crap food all the time when about 5 months. Thankfully DP and I are well up on latest research so managed to completely ignore them. Education is the key. I even got an apology off the MIL recently!
