how much milk should a 14 month old have

dd 14m is having 2 bottles a day, morning and betime total of 14oz and also eats a ton of yoghurt, cheese, cheese sauce, green veg etc.

A HV quoted me a pint a day which shoul;d be fine - sure she gets that from milk and food.

I am very awqare of the bottles and teeth situation and she also advised me to give milk in a beaker instead. This is fine but dd doesn't drink eaven half as much milk from a beaker and I am concerned about her getting all the nutrients she needs.

She is a good eater and has never been that interested in milk (but likes the comfort of the bottle I think), would just be interested to know what others were doing at 14months.

She gave up her mid - am and afternoon bottles very easily so not worried about how she'll react just a bit confused at HV advice

You said it yourself, comfort of the bottle is why she is drinking that much. Most children will reduce their intake largely when they move onto drinking it from cups - but you will be surprised how much the dairy from diet adds up to. And it isn't an essential requirement as it is for them when they are babies.

She sounds like she's doing fine. Especially if shes eating yoghurts and cheese etc. and also a good all round eater. She may well up her milk once she's used to the beaker.

My ds never had milk again after stopping b/feeding at 11 months.
Plenty of cheese and youghurt though.
Infants' need for vast quantities of bovine mammary exudence vastly overestimated.

okay so think will get her on just the bedtime bottle for a bit and make sure she has lots of calcium rich food?

this was my inkling - just scared me when hv said she still needed equiv of 1 pint a day

nb not my own hv just one standing in, so wish I could chat to my hv about it

I am sure the guidelines say 2/3 pt from 12 months. Which is what you are currently at. Neither of mine were on bottles past 12 months, they went onto the magic cups and then onto ordinary lidded beakers. DD (2.6) has just given up her lidded beaker for morning milk. She has her noddy cup either with or without a straw. She has been drinking water/juice from an open cup for a few months.

And they do get dairy in their diet. Actually with DD she dropped her bedtime milk ages before her morning milk - about a year. Now she tends to have milk at the weekend to keep her going as we have breakfast later.

My 15m DD just has one 200ml bottle a day (don't know how much that is in oz), plus the milk she has on her cereal, plus bfs morning and bedtime. I'm trying to wean her off the bottle and get her to drink out of a cup, so she's drinking a lot less as she doesn't like lids and spouts so can't carry the beaker around like she does her bottle.
I'm not worried though, she eats loads of cheese and, as Moondog says, the bovine stuff is vastly overrated. You can get calcium from loads of healthier non dairy sources like tahini, green leafy vegetables, almonds etc. Milk is actually very low in iron and vit C and children who drink loads of the stuff and don't have a good appetite otherwise quite often risk anaemia. A varied diet with a bit of everything is actually much better.
