BLW - will I ever eat out again???

Hi

This is my first post on here although I've been reading lots of threads! My DS Alfie is 26 weeks and has been on BLW since he was 24+4. It's going well apart from the horrific mess. I really don't think I can ever go out around lunchtime again! My lunches keep me sane! How do you BLWers handle it???

Thanks guys!

It's so easy honestly! it's where BLW comes into its own, no jars, no keeping cool/warming up hassles, - just steer clear of fast food joints obviously, chessington was a nightmare! A great choice for me at the beginning was a preferably toasted (if in a cafe) roast chicken/salad sandwich. Toast seems easier for them to eat than plain bread - DS loved sucking on big chunks of chicken. The pieces are also fairly easy to clear up! I could also give him various other titbits from my meal eg veg, potatoes, meat (sometimes sucked free of sauce ). You could also take a little lunchbox of goodies eg banana, ricecakes, organix biccys for a treat, your own sandwiches etc. Take a sleeved/pelican bib, some wet flannels and enjoy!

Hi

Thanks for your reply

I guess it's just the mess I'm worried about really. My kitchen looks like a warzone after feeds! He drops a fair bit and positively chucks stuff he's had enough of!

LOL!

You just have to go with it.
Better to eat out-someone else clears it up.
I think I ate out every single day (live in Turkey) during ds's firdt year.

He would suck on bread, throw bowls of youghurt about and eat beans.

Whether you do BLW or any other type of weaning, wherever you eat generally looks a mess afterwards .

At least with BLW it is rather more like real food than mush...

hi blackalice, good to see you here. i actually love eating out with dd, as it's so easy to clean up after her. when i'm out with pureeing pals i am horrified at the mess.

well, to be fair we all leave a mess but the advantage of BLW is that you just pick up a napkin and grab the big pieces from the floor and then the staff will delightedly take care of the rest. (as an ex-waitress i think it's important to at least try to tidy up after yourself a wee bit).

i have found that the best thing to do is tie a muslin round her neck then put a tommee tippee bib on and roll dd's sleeves up. i also carry wipes with me that i got in boots for cleaning ehr face. oh, and the schedule is, clean the highchair first with napkin, take bib off and put to one side (don't look into it...), clean face and hands with muslin, remove muslin, quick wipe with baby wipe thing and then i tend to dip a corner of the muslin in drinking water and give another wipe with that, to take off any babywipe residue as i think it must taste gross. then you should be left with a clean chair and a clean baby and possibly enough time to get a coffee still...

that sounds complicated, but it isn't.

blackalice, i just took dd to a restaurant for the first time today! i had a salad to start, pizza main course. i gave a her a couple of lettuce leaves and cucumber to chomp on, and then a tiny piece of my pizza. she loved it all! there was far less mess than i was expecting - i just cleaned it up with a napkin. i took along a bib and a muslin. was so easy! and the table was spotless afterwards - nothing to worry about.

Took BabyDragon out for lunch and she made an absolutely appalling mess scattering squidged up chips on the floor. What made it worse was that I cleared most of it up with a napkin and she then managed to grab hold of the napkin and scatter it back on the floor again... So, once you've had a cursory clear up put the napkin out of reach.

I guess you need to pick your food well as some stuff is easier to clear up than others. I'm an expert on clearing up

Just started with blw, so not eaten out yet, i hove found though that a bib will not cover enough, so i tie a terry nappy round his neck. you know what i mean, not trying to kill the poor boy).
