Weaning

How is my 10 1/2 mo old doing - what has yours eaten?

My LO was a little slow at weaning but is now eating slightly more sensible portions sizes now that I've mostly abandoned BLW and spoon it in, very upset about this decision so please be kind.
The last 2 days as what I'd class as very good days, how do they seem to you? I'm not sure about how much I'm 'qualified' to judge whether she's eaten well or not.
Caveat: She's bf, some way above the 99.6 centile, drinks loads of water and produces great nappies so I'm not worried about her health at the moment at all, just want a sanity check to see how we're doing.

So last 2 days food:
Breakfast: C&G baby muesli, 1.5tbsp powder with 2tbsp semi-skim milk (I know!) and 10 blackberries, also ~4tbsp full fat yoghurt and a few very small chews on a soldier of toast and peanut butter
Lunch: ~3tbsp homemade beef, tomato, carrot, sweetcorn celery mush with some wholemeal breadcrumbs stirred in, @1tbsp homemade pea and creamcheese purree
Dinner: ~1tbsp white fish poached in full fat milk, 2tbsp full fat milk sauce, 2tbsp mashed potato, 1tbsp peas.
Today breakfast: C&G baby muesli, 1.5tbsp powder with 2tbsp full fat milk, also ~6tbsp full fat yoghurt and a few very small chews on a soldier of toast and peanut butter
Lunch: 1/2 an Aldi organic pouch of chicken risotto (my first ever ready made baby food so this isn't typical but it'll normally be similar homemade) mixed with 2tbsp cream cheese (dd wouldn't eat it otherwise) and 1/2 a breadstick
DInner: ~1tbsp white fish poached in full fat milk, 1tbsp full fat milk sauce, 1tbsp mashed potato, 1tbsp cauliflower cheese (all homemade), then most of a peach and 3 tbsp full fat yoghurt.

I'm mostly interested in how these quantities look to you, but also I'd welcome comments on the nutritional value of the food if you think it isn't great. I will state that she doesn't normally eat meat/fish for 2 meals a day, that's just how the last 2 days worked out, and obv there is some repetition as I normally cook for 2-3 meals then sometimes freeze some, sometimes give the same thing 2 days running.

Phew, very long post, apologies, and any comments very welcome.
TIA.

Well my DS is now over 2 yrs old, but looking back to when he was 10 to 11 months, what your DD is eating looks like plenty of food. If she is over the 99th centile are you worried that you are over feeding her? From your first sentence it seems like you are worried about under feeding? I think the volumes are more than enough food.

If you are spoon feeding responsively (watching for signs of being full and not trying to encourage one more spoon) then I can't see how you could be over or under feeding her, especially if she is tracking her centile line.

As for nutrition, I have no idea! It seems reasonable from my lay person's view point.

Thanks culture, she's been above the 99.6 line since about a month old, she was ebf and guzzled lots so has always been there. I guess I wasn't very clear in my post! She's been very slow getting to grips with solids, and whilst her weight is fine I'm worried she's still too boob dependent and not transitioning over to food quickly enough.
I also meant to say that the last 2 days have been her best for solids ever probably, she would normally have about 1 day in 3 like these then only eat yogurt and fruit, refusing everything else on the other days. And lots of milk!

if I'm honest I do try to persuade her to have just one more mouthful, but often she won't have more than 1 or 2 mouthfuls of eg muesli or potato, then when I offer a spoonful of yogurt or cream cheese she'll take that, then I can cut the other food with cheese/yog for a couple of spoons until she's persuaded to take it on its own. She's quite stubborn and at some point will absolutely refuse any more food, throwing all attempts on the floor- every few spoonfuls I give her the spoon so she can feed herself for a bit. She seems to vary between wanting to feed herself and wanting to be fed (hands by side, face planting onto the spoon when I offer it to her).
I do struggle with when to stop feeding her, but given most days there is at least one meal where she barely eats anything I think I do stop at the right time sometimes!

How much do other babies of this age eat? I guess there's a big normal range?!

The range of amounts eaten can vary wildly between different children, so I wouldn't worry too much.

The only thing I would say is that I would be wary of mixing yoghurt or cream cheese in with every meal/mouthful. If you do that then everything will taste very similar and she may not want to eat other tastes. If you want to offer yoghurt I would do it after the savoury food as a separate dessert.

I would look to be moving towards offering family type meals (just mashed with a fork or similar) by 12 months. If she isn't interested in eating that much for one meal then I wouldn't worry about it at all. You should look at the amount eaten in a weeks worth of meals before deciding if she is eating too little/enough/too much.

That's a really good point about everything tasting the same, I'll think about that and make some changes. Thanks.

Mine older now but I would say at eat meal they ate around 2 -3 tbsp worth at a guess, but was solid rather than purée for most
Ie 1/2 egg, 1/4 avocado breakfast or heaped tablespoon regular porridge ( once mixed), with say 1/2 banana

Hmm dd eats a lot lot more than that. She is 10 1/2 months and is around the 50 line for weight, but 91 for height. Maybe that's why?

A typical day for us would be:

8am 6oz formula (I offer 7, but she doesn't finish it)

9am breakfast - toast with fruit puree/ toast, ham and grapes/ toast and hummus + fruit etc

11 am - snack rice cakes/ fruit/ avacado etc

1 pm - lunch - vegetable omlette with low salt beans/ baby food pouch + cucumber, tomatoes + fruit

3pm - 6 oz formula

6pm - dinner - home made dinner. Eg chicken, carrots, onion, peppers, courgette, mushrooms, cooked in baby stock, extra herbs and spices added and thickened, served with pasta/potatoes/rice etc. She usually has a huge serving of dinner, sometimes followed by fruit.

8.30pm - bedtime bottle offered, not always wanted.

She will have water throughout the day and with all meals and snacks.

I give her her food in small quantities and only offer more if she finishes what she has, but she eats loads. If her weight is following the 50 line I don't need to worry that I am over feeding her do I? She doesn't eat any unhealthy foods, she just eats loads of things like the above.

Hi flanj tbh I was expecting more replies like yours! Anecdotally I think a lot of mums of similar age babies are feeding them about what you are, hence my worry that my dd is a little slow to join the solids party! Mine is 99.6+ for weight and 98 for height so huge all round so I don't think height and appetite correlate?! But my dd has a lot more milk than yours, she bfs at 6.30, 9, 1.30, 5 and 6, sometimes another one around 3-4 too! So it seems you're just a bit further alongthe weaving journey than us, which fits with my real world experiences.

I tried for ages to get dd to have more milk, but she just isn't interested. Milk is boring now she is on solids. If I offer her a choice between milk and water, she will choose water!

I have worried about the small amount of milk to be honest as I have it going round my brain that until 1 year the milk is the most important. Unfortunately dd hasn't read the books.

Kiki I really wouldn't worry, your dd is obviously getting what she needs!

My 10 month old sucked a bit of toast and ate 1 raisin for breakfast.

Threw his ham, rice cakes and orange on the floor at lunchtime.

Ate 3 of his nanny's crisps.

Screamed and refused his shepherds pie and veg at dinner time.

He's only interested in breast milk when I'm around.

I hope he'll start eating more when I start back at work, full time, next week.

Oh dear whats , sorry to laugh but that is quite funny. We all need to repeat 'it'll be fine one day' and maybe believe it. Silly silly babies!!

I think your DD's portion sizes sound ok. Nutritionally I think it looks ok too but again I'm no dietician lol. My little boy is 9 months and eats and drinks a lot. He is on the 50th centile for weight and 91st for length. He has recently started refusing all purées much to my annoyance lol. Here's what he's had the last couple of days:

Yest
5/6am 6 oz milk
7 am 2 pancakes with fruit puree added
10am 6oz milk
12pm homemade pizza with hidden veg sauce, fromage frais, couple of mini rusk biscuits
3pm 4oz milk
5pm "picnic" tea; bit of pasta, grated cheese, breadsticks and puffits
7.30 7oz milk
11pm 6oz milk dreamfeed

Today
5/6am 6 oz milk
7am Cheerios soaked in milk and chopped apple
10am 7oz milk
12.30pm pasta mixed in ellas kitchen puree as a sauce with grated cheese, a banana, fromage frais
3pm (will be) 4oz milk, maybe a rice cake or two
5pm (will be) savourey mince, steamed carrots, peas and boiled potatoes, fruit pot
Bedtime milk and dreamfeed will be the same as yesterday.

Since refusing purées he seems to be eating a lot and is still taking a lot of milk. But he is crawling and cruising all over the place and burning the cals off quick I think.
