How many cubes of purée?

My baby is 7 months old and I have been feeding him purees. When I got him weighed this week he had jumped very slightly into the next percentile. He actually lost weight a couple of weeks before so it's a bit of a shift. He has never been a chubby baby anyway. HV said he was fine although now I am concerned I am feeding him too much. I was giving him 3 cubes of frozen purée for each meal sometimes followed by some fruit/yogurt for eg. (3 times a day and he has dropped a milk feed), and he was happily eating it all. Now I'm being advised by partner/mil to drop that to 2 cubes. Somehow this seems a bit mean! Should be exercise control at this age even if they keep wanting more? I wondered how many frozen cubes you normally give your babies for each meal?

I give as much as the baby wants but slowly and watch for signs they are full. Babies all fluctuate a bit on their weight/lines, especially around times of diet change or increased movement. I wouldn't do anything about a small increase on one weigh-in. If his centile starts shooting up over the next few months or you have any other concerns (eg he starts refusing milk totally, which would not be optimal at 7months), then you may want to think about changes, but for now I'd just carry on being led by your baby.

My 7mo is also on 3 meals a day. I was giving either a 2oz pot or 3 cubes as each meal but I've been moving her up by adding an extra cube to one meal a day. I'll probably start to add a cube to another one now - so heading for 4 cubes per meal as standard.

I've also upped other portions such as when I give her weetabix (with milk and a pot of purée - 3 cubes). I was giving her half a weetabix but I'm up toa full one now.

So typically, a day will be

Breakfast- one weetabix, 3 cubes fruit purée &cows milk
Lunch - 4 cubes of a veg based purée
Dinner - 3 cubes of a meat based purée

Plus 4 x 9oz bottles of milk. She's starting to leave 3-5 oz of milk per day (so. 1 or 2 oz per bottle but she's not consistent with what she leaves when).
