Gone from 2 to 3 meals at 7.5m - is this why naps have gone out the window?

Hi. On the advice of my HV, I moved my 7.5mo onto 3 meals as of Wednesday morning. Since then, he has hardly napped during the day.

Normally he would sleep for around 1-1.5 hours after breakfast then around 1.5 hours after lunch. Now that the schedule has changed a bit because of fitting in 3 meals rather than 2, he's only managing around half an hour of napping each time before waking up crying. He's still tired as he'll rub his eyes and be unhappy but doesn't seem to be able to settle.

Have I moved him onto 3 meals too soon for his system to deal with? Or could it just be that he needs to adapt to the slight change in meal/nap times? There's also a bit of development going on this week - learnt to sit up from lying down and starting to pull himself up on things (me!).

Thanks
x

Well, the advice from the HV is a little outdated. The NHS don't recommend moving to 3 meals until they are between 8 and 9 months.

It could be a development spurt, but it won't hurt to go back to 2 meals for a couple of weeks and see how he gets on Smile

I might do - last night he was really unsettled, waking up every hour or so to pass some wind, get a bit annoyed then go back to sleep again!

I wonder if I'm also giving him too much - for example yesterday he had about 2-3 tbsp of millet 'porridge' with 2 tbsp of blueberries, 4 stalks of broccoli with 2-3 tbsp of swede as a dip, then 2 tbsp of lamb, 2 of sweet potato and 2 stalks of cauliflower. He has 4x 210ml of milk.

Probably just coincidence with the 3 meal thing. My 7.5month Ds has been exactly the same as this since 6 months. 30 minute naps are driving me bonkers! I'm hoping its just a developmental thing. Oh and we are only on two meals a day, not leastly because by 4/5pm is so grumpy from lack of sleep I don't think trying to get him to sit down and eat would be a good idea.
