Sooo, I am just starting to think about weaning DD (5 months), so doing my research and getting organised ready to start with her. There is one thing I really don't understand & can't get my head around & that is how & when to reduce milk intake? Can someone please explain to me

* pressed send too soon!

What did you do with your LO's? How do I know when to offer less milk?

When they start refusing it. Most odd their nutrients should come from milk until about 12 months.

Simple as that? Be guided by baby? I was chatting to HV this week & she implied I would have to reduce it otherwise DD may put on too much weight? Once b/fast is established and lunch drop mid morning, once tea is established then drop mid afternoon etc. She implied I would need to do this so baby doesn't get fat, saying that if I keep offering she'll keep taking (TBH I doubt she would though, she's not a big milk drinker as it is, she doesn't need much of an excuse to refuse it!).

Well you could keep getting her weighed and drop feeds if she starts climbing centiles, or if you feel she's getting too much, but don't expect her to actually consume much solids at first.
