What's for breakfast? without sugar or salt...

DS is 6.5 months. I've just been giving him fruit for breakfast but wanted to give him something a bit more substatial. I bought Heinz Organic Baby Porridge but when I looked at the ingredients it has sugar in it. Then heard another mom say she gave her LO Weetabix so got that but that one has sugar AND salt.
I'm trying my darndest to avoid that stuff, so does anyone have any suggestions?

how about grinding up regular porridge oats and making a smooth porridge? You could add a little apple puree for sweetness if you like.

DS has a form of porridge made from a mixture of organic brown rice flakes and organic millett flakes. I cook this up with some goats milk (but you could use cows / formula / ebm) and then add some mashed fruit. I would probably give him pure porridge oats if I could, but he has a gluten and cows milk free diet. I'm sure if you buy the oats from a health shop they'd be sugar and salt free.

Readybrek does not have any added sugar or salt and dd 7m eats it most mornings. Aple and pear/Apple and Prune puree with a spoonful of ready brek - ie mostly fruit, but really gobbles it atm. also, try natural yoghurt with fruit puree.

at that age mine loved just regular porridge with some nice ripe mashed banana to sweeten it - cook the porridge well and it should be fine.

You can get wholegrain puffed brown rice (like rice crispies) which can be liquidised with milk for a very young baby.

Sainsbury's do a raisin wheats cereal (like mini shredded wheats) which has no sugar or salt.

There is also a baby muesli called Familia which is very finely ground, but expensive and IIRC has ground nuts in so not good if you are avoiding nuts. You can make your own muesli by just whizzing dry oats etc in the blender until you get a powder. Lovely with mashed banana, or fruit puree.

Ordinary cooked brown rice, or quinoa, is also nice liquidised with milk, with some mashed banana and cinnamon for sweetness. This is the cheapest and probably the healthiest option IMO.

I give dd ( 11 mths) ready brek which has no salt or sugar mixed up with either banana or some fruit puree otherwise it tastes like wallpaper paste!
