have some chicken waiting to be cooked but am unsure if ds (nearly 7 months, started weaning at 22 weeks) is ready. also - steam, then blend with veggies, or casserole it all together then blend - which did you find easier?

vic dd is 7 months. Started her on chicken last week. She loves it. I just cut up some chicken breasts and cooked in a casserole with water, onions, carrots and turnip. Mashed. Froze the extra. Serve it with sweet potato or pasta and some extra veg. It's beef today...

Read somewhere that babies can't digest meat until they are 7 months - something to do with the fat in it.

The advice I was given is that milk should be their major form of protein for the first 12 months, and that small portions of proteins should be gradually introduced from around 9 months. This was when weaning was routinely recommended at 16 weeks, so dd had been on solids for about 5 months before I introduced proteins. I didn't start with meat (I'm veggie); I started with cheese, lentils, chick peas and so on.
