One idea is to go s/c with a large group & split the costs of accomodation, this can work out v cheap and a lot of fun

Have a scout about for a cottage rental if you want a holiday in the UK,some can be really cheap off peak,we've even booked one via ebay which was super inexpensive.

car and travelodge? or easyjet flight and hotel? if you go on a week day you might be able to get really cheap flights.

We have just bought a tent in order to have more holidays, but imagine that might not be a relaxing option, as a first timer, pregnant and with a young child.
I would recommend caravanning though. YOu can get some very cheap deals on static caravans in May, and caravans nowadays are really quite home from home. Some have central heating! Just an idea

here. You can hire a cottage on this National Trust site which is beautiful quite cheaply.

That place I linked to has an indoor pool and beautiful beach nearby (Barafundle bay).

Its a National Trust site which has larger houses to hire for big groups and then around 4 smaller cottages on the site for famillies or between 4-6 people. You haven't got to share your cottage with anyone. Its just a cheaper way of hiring a holiday cottage.

Tenby is lovely too. Fab beaches

Try Lymebayholidays for cottages - you might get something cheap out of school hol times.

Also - Youth Hostels now have private family rooms at a very very cheap rate - and are not as spartan as they used to be!

Well, search some more on that site.

Also, I think Cottages4You had some very good cheap deals - and you can get 4 night short breaks with these companies which would bring the price down a lot.

We've stayed for the past few years in a 1930s seasides bungalow in Bacton, Norfolk. It is small & basic but comfortable. 2 bedrooms one has futon bed which may be ok for your ds, otherwise would need to bring your own travel cot. It is just a few metres from the sea/sandy beaches. Bacton has shops, fish & chips, child friendly pubs and los to dolocally without spending a lot of money. This year we're paying £200 a week for August so I know May would be cheaper. Can supply owner's emailif you are interested. I had a great time there whilst 7 months pregnant with ds2 last april.

You can book family rooms in some of the Youth Hostels - see here.

Friend did this last year with 6 and 3 year old, somewhere in Wales i think.
