Harrogate party venue

We're trying to arrange a surprise party for my parents golden wedding anniversary.
They live in Harrogate so we want it there or nearby. I'm looking at the Conference centre and my brother's checking out the Sun Pavilion at the Valley Gardens.
Does anyone know anywhere else that we could consider. Looking for space for dancing and partying rather than a formal sit down meal, but we will be having catering.
It's not until October 2008.
Any advice or places to avoid appreciated!

the gardens venue sounds nice. I would have suggested The yorkshire lass or gallon house in Knaresborough (both personal special places) but I'm not sure if either have room for dancing.

Good luck, keep us informed as I'm a nosey sod and love that area (happy memories)

Thanks for that Rialife.

I'll have a look at both of those.

We're currently looking at La Tasca, Spanish restaurant on John's Street.

My parents are mad keen on Spain and you can arrange for Spanish dancers to perform in the restaurant.

The Conference centre got back to me, asking me to let them know if my budget increased.

I decided I wasn't too keen on the whole dance thing as it's not fair on my parents really. My dad's disabled and would have difficulty walking to the Sun Pavilion from his parking space, let alone dancing.

So maybe it'll be La Tasca, my brother's going to ring up for more info. Don't know if anyone else has tried it?

Will let you know what happens with our plans.

I have been to a wedding at The Pavillions in Yorkshire Showground; had a dance floor; car park outside, so your Dad wouldn't have to walk far. There are a few function rooms to choose from I think.

I would think most of the bigger hotels would be worth a try, like Cedar Court, The Majestic.

Hope that helps.

the Spanish idea sounds nice SK.

Have just remembered (stupid thing to forget baby brain honest!) we did a surprise party for my parents Ruby anniversary. We hired the church hall where they had their wedding reception. DH is a chef so he did the food, but it worked better for our budget, we only had bucks fizz for a toast with it being a church hall it was no alcohol, but that was good on our budget too.

Good luck.

Thanks for the suggestions Rocacola. I'm waiting for my brother to get back in touch with me after he's contacted the Spanish restaurant, so I'll wait and see what he says about La Tasca.

Like the idea of hiring the church hall Rialife, my parents got married about 200 miles away from where they now live so that'd be too much of a trek. But I have looked into getting a 1958 newspaper from where they got married and lived, Newcastle upon Tyne. Think I'll end up getting them a Times newspaper though.

Thanks to you both. I'll feedback when I know the decision on the Spanish theme.
