My sons first passport application has been with the passport office for weeks and weeks, they have written to the counter signatory which was received today, they have asked him to write a letter on company headed paper confirming the identity of myself and my son and to also confirm he only counter signed it when the form was fully completed. Once he has sent this letter to them how long can I expect to wait before I actually get the passport?

Is this check normal practise? I'm travelling beginning of August and am getting worried I have done something wrong? I provided his birth certificate and passport numbers of myself his dad and all grandparents so can't think what I could have done for all these checks to be warranted, has this happened to anyone else?

Yes, it happened on my daughters 2nd passport renewal. I think they just pick them out randomly. Luckily the counter signatory was a good friend and wrote back quickly. Once she did we received the new passport within a week.

Yes, some of these are because they pull out a random selection to check.

It should be issued rapidly once they've heard back from the counter-signatory.

Hi, the same has happened to my sons first passport application.
We applied early July and I have been ringing up to find out what's going on, only to be told today that they are waiting to hear from our countersignatory after sending them a letter on the 25th July. Only problem is that the letter went to his company (big company!) and it's not yet got to him or has got lost. The passport office can't tell me what was on the letter so we are having to guess what he should write!!!
I've read on here and other sites that it needs to be handwritten on headed paper, that they need to say that they signed the application after it was fully completed and to confirm how they know my child. Is there anything that I have missed or should know? Does anyone have a copy of the letter they could send me?
We travel on the 19th August do starting to get a bit worried now!
