Loch Lomond early March?

We have a week off in early March, we had thought of going to London but the kids say they want a 'nature holiday'. Had a look at Loch Lomond and it ticks a few boxes - there's castles and a bird of prey centre, plus some easyish walks we can do, plus it's not too far from us (4hr drive).

However I have just looked at the waterbus timetable and it doesn't start running until the end of March / early April. Is this because the weather will be rubbish till then? Will it still be worth going so out of season? Any other ideas for a 'nature holiday'?

TIA x

Forgot to say kids are aged 9, 7, 4 and 1, we'll probably be looking at self-catering.

Hi Loch Lomond is a very scenic part of the world to visit, but in March the weather is likely to be mixed, hard to predict but probably some rain.

I love the Lake District as there are loads of outdoor things to do, but if the weather is bad there are a few indoor options as well, plus I think the boats will be running in March.

It will be beautiful but yes weather will be unpredictable that time of year. U will be within reach of Glasgow day trips if it is particularly bad!

We have just had a lovely day out at Luss. Fab weather. It is just luck really but there is still plenty to do nearby if it does rain.

I imagine the waterbus starts at Easter because that's the start of the tourist season, and not much call for it before then. So in this vein, I'd also check out the castles , some may have seasonal openings too.

May I suggest Center Parcs Whinfell Forest?

Tourist season is Easter to the end of October, so some things will be closed
