Somewhere like centre parcs or Butlins in Scotland

I'm looking at breaks away for next year when we will have a 3 year old and a one year old. Neither of us have been to Scotland before and we quite fancy the idea of this .

Ideally we'd like to stay in a centre parcs/butlins type place with activities on site for the kids but also close enough to be able to have day trips into one of the big cities and maybe some countryside.

Does anyone have any recommendations. I have looked at haven but not sure about that.

There are some nice forest lodge parks in Scotland. Never stayed there myself but on my wish list.

Have only heard bad things about Craig Tara in Ayr so don't be tempted by that!

My sil has stayed here and enjoyed it: www.piperdam.com Think close enough to Edinburgh for you.

Crieff is massively popular but not really close to anywhere. Great if you also need a break through as they have excellent childcare facilities.

Argyll holidays have a few sites, travel into glasgow is possible.

We used to holiday in the Highlands. Aviemore or Coylumbridge.
Very outdoorsy, not particularly close to Glasgow or Edinburgh, but we loved it.
Indoor fun places too as they have to cater for all seasons (which you can get in one day!)

Aviemore town not particularly pretty, but the surrounding scenery is.
Hilton hotels and the macdonald hotels are there. There are lodges and caravan sites too.

Fly to Inverness, I think. If you're not driving...

Brilliant thank you all! Will check out all of your suggestions. I'm getting excited now, we've never been to scotland before. I like the idea of a log cabin and the crief hyro looks similar to what we are looking for, shame it's not near anything. Will avoid haven!

Agree that Crieff Hydro and Coylumbridge in Aviemore really good choices. Definitely avoid Craig Tara in Ayr!! There is also Peebles Hydro which is not too far out of Edinburgh but it's a bit run down and in need of a refurb. Good stuff for kids though and nice grounds. Food not good.

Sunbeam- Peebles Hydro has recently been taken over by the family that own Crieff Hydro and they are planning to spend millions to upgrade it after years of neglect- so watch this space in the next couple of years.

We went to Craig Tara last year and loved it, its the apartments that have a bad rep. There was loads to do including swimming, play park, small funfair, water walking, go karting, water walking, massive soft play, laser tag, climbing walls, arcade, pedal boats, bungee trampolines and the kids shows in the evenings. Its also right next to Heads of Ayr park which has plenty to do too.

Noah's ark in Perth is really good too :)

I second Crieff hydro - we went when ours were that age. I also love Aviemore. I have stayed at Cameron ?Lodge near Loch Lomond/Glasgow without children but might be worth seeing what it offers for children.

Know folk who have been here and like it.
Aviemore is great too.
Craig Tara is near Ayr- which is pretty run down now IMO. .I would go there for my first time visiting Scotland

This is near Oban which is much more scenic
