I have a wedding to get to in Scotland but can't afford to get there!

I live in Dorset and need to get to Ayrshire for my cousin's wedding in March. Have looked at planes and trains and, although the deals are probably ok, it's still over £200 which I can't afford! Not convinced my rubbish, little car would get me and the DCs there in one piece and would have to do all the driving as am recently separated. Haven't looked into coach prices but imagine it would be pretty hellish with two young children. I'm guessing I've exhausted all the options, but anyone got any other bright ideas?!

do you have a local board like freecycle. you could ask on there if anyone else in your area is driving up that way for those dates and if you can share costs. is anyone else going to the wedding that is relatively nearby? could you maybe drive to them and then share the drive and the costs? ask your cousin who she has invited and see if they will share with you.

Could you try an raise the money by selling things on e-bay or a local FB selling page?

if you could be a bit more specific on where and when we might be able to help out a bit better.

In the meantime have you looked on lift sharing websites?

Get a family rail card and book train online 12 weeks before. To get a rough idea of the price , price it up now for in 12 weeks time , tick fam rail card option. You've got a few weeks to raise some money, try selling on facebook or ebay!

There is a website called lift share. My DH gives a lift to someone who sometimes needs lift to place he works as our public transport only goes up and down not across. The chap gives DH a contribution to petrol. Not much but DH lines the chat! Try that website to ask for a lift

I got a coach from london to Dundee for £12 return with the megabus last year. They must have other Scottish stops, if you can get a coach to london too.

Thanks so much for all your replies. My brother kindly said that he would pay for accommodation, so I've booked flights. I'll definitely look at megabus/lift shares to get me to and from airports at either end though. Also great info for future reference, especially now I'm a skint single mum! Thanks again.
