Muck Boots for Kids?

DD1's birthday is coming up and I was considering a pair of boots for the yard that can double up for riding - she normally wears her wellies but I wondered if a pair of these would be any good?

am not a fan of these, or wellies around the yard - the soles just don't inspire with confidence for their safety in stirrups and the fabric bits seem too flimsy given the real possibility of pony standing on your foot or kicking

even if is difficult to get reinforced toe in children's sizes it is very hard to beat tall leather boots for protection when mooching about helping round the yard and riding

am not even really very keen on jodh boots and half chaps but think that is better compromise

this is probably a bizarre personal preference rather than something with any reliable sort of basis!

happy to take on board any advice as for the moment all I do is get her wellies with a bit of a heel in them to catch on the stirrup!

so what should I be getting then?!?!

tall leather boots - just my opinion though

but amass more opinions or evidence as these £££ for growing people - my 11yr old same size feet as me which makes it a bit more £friendly

is smoothness of sole as well as heel for riding though

and protection from clumsy horsey feet (lack of) rubber affords

yup, she's already been stood on maybe I should just stick with the wellies as she's only 7yrs old and I can't be affording the mucho £££

Dizzy - I always had rubber long boots - like these mucho cheaper than leather and more easliy cleanable after the mud and poo fest that is a yard in the winter.

are you talking 'muckers' with plastic below and fabric above, or 'muck boots' made of rubber and neoprene?
Im not a big fan of muckers, they are flimsy and not really waterproof above the rubber. Muck boots style I love. I had a pair of the ankle length ones and I wore them for everything. They are not sold specifically for riding, but as long as they have some sort of instep/heel, I would wear them to ride in. I would say use them but make sure your child uses peacock safety stirrups as well to cover all eventualities. Muck boots are actually quite strong around the toes, I was frequently trodden on by welsh ponies at the stud where I worked, and they do afford some protection.
Rubber long boots are okay, and designed to ride in, but they can be hell to get on/off and the linings tend to get all messed up and lumpy. Im sorry Mitchy, but in my world, leather boots are strictly for shows! If DD wore them around the muddy yard, I would kill her!!
My recommendation would be these DD had a pair and she wore them for 3 years! the link is for adult ones, but gives you an idea.

I seem to think they came up about right/slightly roomy, and have a fluffy innersole which came out to make them bigger when dd's feet grew a bit.

Love my Muck Boot Tynes but they don't come in kids' sizes. The Tack, I think it's called, come in smaller sizes but are not suitable for riding (no heel).
