Thanks for advice and encouragement in my previous thread about grand daughter's pony, I finally plucked up courage and I've just got back from my first lesson since giving up 28 years ago.

I nearly bottled out when it came to getting on, but had a stern word with myself and managed the whole lesson! I only walked and trotted,(on the big quiet cob they use for RDA) but I really enjoyed it so will now be spending even more of my time and money on all things horsey!

How badly will I ache tomorrow do you think? Will it be enough to justify getting DH to muck out tomorrow?

yay for you! how did you feel? canter next time, maybe?

expect inner thighs will ache a bit, used to feel it most acutely when driving (putting clutch in for example) - am sure you will be utterly unable to muck out, in fact it would be an abuse of your rights as a newly returned rider for your husband not to do it

can you ride the children's ponies too or are they too tiny?

Thanks Mitchy. It's my shoulders that ache most at the moment (probably because I was really tense) and my dodgy hip is a bit so-so, so I definitely can't muck out and must lay on the sofa being waited on

I'm really pleased with myself for getting back on and really enjoyed it once I unfroze. I mustn't leave it too long before I canter otherwise I'll get scared again. I'll see how I go next time.

Unfortunately gd's pony is 13.3hh (and a bit fine)and I'm 5'11 so it will be a while before a share is possible, but I am hoping eventually. (Gs isn't ready for a pony yet and is small for his age so not much chance there)

What I'd really like is to be able to go out for some nice hacks with them in the spring, I'm hoping to get a nice 'dope on a rope' type part loan/share. I wonder if any of the summer babies people could oblige!

DH now wants to learn, so that will be all 4 of us riding. I wonder if I should just get my salary paid direct to livery/riding school!

Ooh you will ache but I always find it's worse 48hrs later rather than the next day!

"I wonder if I should just get my salary paid direct to livery/riding school!" Yep about right but don't forget to throw in your pension as well.
