Best Fly Rug??

So, new pony needs a fly rug - any recommendations?

Is a sweet itch rug worth the extra? What about waterproof options?

All suggestions gratefully rec'd. Smile

I use both, I quite like the sweet itch rugs, I use the masta bug rug on 2 of mine. got them for £40 each from Equestrian clearance (they retail at about £80ish normally. they're light, easy to wash and dry whilst ponies are in for a couple of hours (if its a sunny day) dry on them when it rains in the day.
I put a premier Equine one on my gypsy cob, its a silver reflective fly rug, he has a huge mane and the others make him hot, so this one works well. I don't bother with the waterproof ones, in Autumn I put a light weight over the sweet itch rug on the mare that needs to keep it on (she reacts badly to bites but doesn't have classic sweet itch)
my friend loves the Rambo sweet itch one, but I have never personally used that one.
last year the masta bug rug lasted my mare all summer and only ripped when my daughter didn't open the gate wide enough and it got caught on the gate clip and ripped.

We use the Rambo sweet itch rug with the hood with holes for the ears.

Does a good job of keeping the flys off and, importantly for us, stops their coat colours from bleaching out.

Should note they are a great - snug - fit and seem comfortable in this hot weather for the ponies.

Thank you too Butkin.

Will see what we can pick up at the RHS.

Cheers
