If it's a decent native/welsh stocky type and not a slim Section A, I would have thought so.
You might be better off with a 14 though.

I think you'd feel unbalanced on a 13hh. I'm 5'7" and when I ride my friend's 13.3 I'm fine in walk but feel like I'll tip over in trot. Depends how wide the pony is mind you, but then you don't want a wide one for a 5 year old.

Our 14h is way too big for the 5 yr old. Me and my 10 yr old share her happily though.

How competent are you? If you are an experienced rider/well balanced you should be okay on a wide 13 2.

13hh is perfectly acceptable for you, but IMO way to big for them. Kids that age should be on Shetlands or welsh a types. There's no reason why you couldn't ride a nice sturdy welsh a, but they would be unable to do much with 13hh. Leading and grooming would be more dangerous and stopping it if it gets excited would be beyond them. It is also too big for lead rein showing classes. I have a traditional Shetland who is a diamond with the kids and carries me (5ft3 and considerably heavier than you) with no problem.

13HH is fine for an 8 year old! DS competes on ours, usually gets placed in 2 ft and 2ft3!

Ours is a slimmy, though!

My 11 year old jumps my 15 3 hunter over a metre! Grin

I'm 5ft 8 about 10st and have ridden the dds 13hh pony. She is the right size for my leggy 8 year old,but a bit too big for my 6 year old.We are trying to find a smaller pony for dd2,but all the Section A's we've tried are too strong, too fast or buckers. At the rate we are going,by the time we find the right pony,dd2 will have grown into dpony and it will be dd1 who wants something faster/bigger.Good luck with your search.

I'm 24 5ft 5 and when at my heaviest no more than 10st and rode my 13.2 pony till about 20 got her when i was 13 (only stopped cos I retired her) would still be riding her now if I could. She's a pure palomino not a novice ride at all tho and needs a cob bridle and head collar. I don't feel to big for her at all and size wise would have been perfect for a youngster to ride as well. I think of you find the right build you will be fine but you also need to consider would enjoy riding something that and 5 and 8 year old could safely ride. Personally I wouldn't but I like them a little but wild x

I don't think you'd have a problem with a 13hh but I agree with Saggy that I think you'd be overhorsing your kids.

Our competent 8yo has a Sec B 12.2 and her old Sec A 11.2 Any more than the 12.2 and she would be overhorsed at this stage even though she jumps him up to 2 foot and shows him at BSPS level.

Your 5yo would be way over horsed and should really be on something less than 12hh. If you want to share then get something for your daughter that you could ride but certainly get a smaller pony for your 5yo.
