Is 48 too old to a future Employer?

I'm a TA and reasonably happy in my current job; been in the same class and with the same Teacher for 3 years.

A job had been advertised in a school that , location wise, would be perfect for me.

I won't bore you all with the details but to tell my boss I'm looking for other jobs will cause no end of angst.

Will my age cause concern or make someone chuck out my forms when someone reads the initial application?

What do you think, should I bother applying? I'm nervous and scared of change.

No it's not. I've had two "permanent" teaching jobs in my 50s.

Fizz When you fill out the application form and list jobs it becomes apparent, you list your age at some point.

I'm very fit, active and rarely ill , I'm concerned that seeing 48 would put people off before meeting me in an interview

I'm a TA who's just changed schools at 60 and I was wary about the age thing. Annoyingly we are expected to work to 66/67 now but I bet a lot of employers might not take that into consideration! You do not have to explicitly state your age but as you are expected to fill in your entire job history I think it's obvious how old you are. I made a point of visiting the two schools I was interested in so the HTs could see me in person and was invited to interview for both. So, judging by my own recent experience, no, your age won't be against you at all. Good luck!

I trained as a teacher aged 53 and have not found it a problem at all - just been offered a perfect job I did not even apply for.

Peggy Whitson has just jetted off on the space shuttle aged 56. If she can do that, you can certainly take on a new TA role!

Well considering you are expected to work longer nowadays, I cant see how 48 can be regarded as too old to work!!!!! You have [sadly] potentially well over 10 years of your career left.
