References Question

This is probably a silly question but it's been a while since I applied for a job...

I've been working in a school on a supply basis for a year and am now applying for a permanent position in the same school. On the application form I have to give two references and it states that one should be my current or recent employer. Presumably in this case, I should put down the head from my most recent permanent position rather than the school I am in now and someone from a school before that?

When I was in this position, I had the head from my former permanent position and the deputy head of the school to which I was applying.

That was my alternative option Temporarily. I wasn't sure if it was a bit weird to list someone who may be involved with the recruitment process. My old head and deputy would both be happy to give me a reference.
