The long hard slog is almost over, want to leave everything finished so I am not called back for anything. Will think long and hard before ever becoming a class teacher again.

I probably will go back, part time probably but first need to lie down in a dark room for about a month. I hope your request is approved, I think it will make a huge difference.

My last day next week (different holidays, obviously!)

I have done F/T and P/T teaching and would just like to say that these days P/T is almost never matched with P/T expectations from management, so you end up more stressed trying to fit F/T admin into less time for less pay!

It's not the answer, imo! I'm getting out and staying out!

That's terrible freakypenguin, for me the pressure is too much. Just when you think you're on top of things and maybe you can get on with planning and preparing fun lessons some other initiative/learning walk/scrutiny is thrown at you, and all of them unrelated to your ideas for what the children need. I will miss the class though....

I agree Freaky I am on a 0.6 contract (with management responsibility and a curricular area that comes with lots of clubs) and end up working around 35 hours a week which is more than directed time for a full time teacher.

Directed time- that's a laugh- no way a class teacher could function effectively on 32.5 hours a week...

Finished up for holidays yesterday. I've recently gone down to 4 days a week due to health problems and I honestly feel so much better - massive health improvements, much needed weight loss and much less stressed at the weekend. And now I've got eighteen days off! I dread the thought of going back part time.

I finish on weds and cannot wait! It has made me ill and had a massive impact in my well being and my families! It's not the job I went into. The future is uncertain but all I can feel is relief!!

Ruprekt no they didn't mind, well the HT didn't - I did give plenty of notice though. A few of the support staff grumbled about bad timing, but I wrote the reports before I left and they have found someone to take over. The parents were also fine. I was feeling very stressed at work and now feel soooo much better I just couldn't manage any more.

I finished on Friday. Will not be going back to teaching (well, not state secondary teaching anyway) for a goid long time, if ever. Such a relief to have left.

Doesn't really matter if they minded or not, does it? We already have the longest notice period of anyone, why should we feel we have to wait until the end of the year? Good that they were ok with it, though, saadia - must have made it more comfortable for you.
