Early Years people - anyone else heard this?

I was on a course last week and was told that from September 2015 the Government want to get rid of the EYFS curriculum in Year R!!!! No news on what they want to replace it with or why, just 4 years after a major overhaul ( which was only 5 years after the last one!) they want to do it again! FFS - we've only just had our first moderation training/ meeting! If they do this I will truly leave teaching rather than deliver a curriculum which goes against everything we know about child development and brain development. I know I'm speculating wildly here, but going on past performance, I have zero faith in what they will replace it with :(

I haven't heard anything about that. My reception colleagues are going on some moderation training next week so I'll ask them to find out.

I'm not surprised. My guess is a big swing back to formal learning. It seems to be already happening in schools I've looked round recently. My TAs will be delighted - time to close the doors and reach for the worksheets.

Back to the literacy hour in Reception then, I reckon, with 15 minutes of word/sentence level work, 15 minutes of text level and a lovely 25 minute carousel of worksheets!

Eek!

Haven't heard this exactly but there definite sway towards formal early, Liz Truss and looking to the French model of more formal at 2! Apparently if they win the next election she is going to replace Gove, could be frying pan/fire situation.

Really? I hadn't heard that. What post is Gove angling for next then?!

Not heard that here. I wouldn't be at all surprised, but how very, very sad if it happens.

Apparently to the home office (I am a political idiot so when the person told me I went a bit blank after Liz Truss bit...)

I can see him wanting the Home Sec position. He's screwed up education, he can screw up the police and the rest of the country next!

He wants the top job, surely? Hmm

Just what we need- more changes to EYFS...
