Training bursary question

Have ploughed through the websites and it's not really clear, thought someone might be able to help.
I think from my reading that you can train as a maths teacher if you have an a level in maths, the funding bursary is related to degree grade ie more money for first etc, but does that have to be in maths?
Ds has a* a for maths and further maths A level and will have an oxbridge degree (probably a first) but in another subject (no good for teaching really )
So would that count for funding?
Also do you have to work for a certain time after graduation or repay the money?

I'm not entirely sure about the funding but I guess if you're training to become a maths teacher you get the grant as per www.education.gov.uk/get-into-teaching/funding/postgraduate-funding

" Candidates wishing to teach Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics, but with insufficient subject content in their degrees, may be accepted on the programme conditional on successfully completing a Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics Enhancement course (PEC/CEC/MEC). "
So therefore as you said you can teach maths and the funding is on what your DS is going to teach so you would be elgible for funding as your DS will be teaching maths

last year the rules were that the bursary was dependent on having a degree in the shortage subject with 15k bursary for 2/1 and 20k bursary for 1st. details are on the teaching agency website. I received one of these bursaries, paid monthly in arrears, so can't be used to pay the uni fees.

I managed to get a place studying to be a maths teacher with a physics degree - changed my mind in the end so didn't do it but I think the bursary is linked to the course -however this would need to be something to do with the subject for you to get on the course I think

He will probably need to do a SKE (subject knowledge enhancement) course before a PGCE. I know someone who trained as a science teacher and someone else who trained as a maths teacher with degrees in humanities subjects, but were required to do a 9 month SKE course before the PGCE. Their bursaries were related to their degree class even though the degrees were in totally irrelevant subjects.

That way he gets paid for the training.
