The litter tray

Any ideas?

My cat is 9, since the summer has lost a LOT of weight (can feel all his bones and he's very long-haired). No appetite. He's been drooling a lot so took him to vet and he needed some teeth out. That's been done and he's healed well with no problems.

He still had no appetite and was still drooling though so started anti-nausea medication which has brought back his appetite, somewhat. Fur matting like crazy and losing fur (large patches behind shoulders).

He's also losing his balance. Always kind of tilting and falling to the right.

He's started drooling again though and has black stuff on his lips and chin.

Minor chronic kidney failure.

Not vomiting. No diarrhoea.

Blood pressure fine.

Does anybody recognise this? A few vets have checked him out and nobody is certain of what's going on. Some have said maybe FIV or leukaemia, but said little point in doing expensive blood work because both are untreatable anyway, so we'll just work in trying to increase/maintain appetite and keep him comfortable.

Inner ear infection? Has that been ruled out? That would only explain the lack of balance though, not the rest of it.

Thanks for replying. I'll ask the vet. He's not been rubbing his ear, but good idea!

Sounds like kidney failure. If it's been picked up but it's in the early stages he should be on a renal food.

How many of his teeth were left behind?
