The litter tray

Worried about moving with highly strung cats!

I have 2 cats, 4 years old. We got them as 12 week old feral kittens, and we tamed them!

They are both real outdoor cats, I think because they started out outside. When one of them hurt her leg and couldn't walk we tried to keep them both in with a litter tray. The both sat by the cat flap for 36 hours and both refused to use the litter. I got so upset I let them out and they were both clearly desperate to go to the toilet.

So when we move I am worried they will do this again. They will want to go out so much, and I won't be able to give in.

I need some experiences or suggestions because I am so worried they will make themselves ill!

I thought of maybe making a huge litter tray filled with soil from our garden.

I'm not sure how feasible it is, but could you use netting to allow them into a small part of the garden? I'm sure they will eventually use the tray though.

Our last cat was a rescue who had been caged for weeks before she came to us, she was outside within hours.

Previous cat to that moved with us to our parents then to new house and we never kept her in, she only used a litter tray in her last few weeks when very week and unable to get in and out the cat flap.

Both cats were happy to come and go from day 1
