Ah fleas! Please help!

Hi everyone
I have a 15 week old kitten and I'm a first time cat owner. I've had her for 5 weeks and she hasn't been outside or around other animals since I've had her. Last week the vet gave her a flea treatment as a precaution while getting her second injections.
Was just sat cuddling her when I noticed a flea on my arm 😫
I was a bit shocked as the vet told me that as she's an indoor cat she'll probably never have fleas but to do treatments now and then just incase. He gave me the rest of the treatments and told me to give her one a month after the first.
Now that I've seen a flea do I give another treatment or do I wait a month?
Also can anyone advise me on what I should do with regards to the sofa and rugs?

You need to wait the correct amount of time before you treat her again but you can use a flea comb to comb them off. Make sure she's wormed too as fleas give cats worms.
Treat the house asap, for every flea you see there's something ridiculous like 99 more in the house. Boil wash sheets and whatever you can. Hoover and apply flea powder or spray 10 minutes later and then Hoover again, do this daily for as long as you can. It can take weeks to get rid of fleas, but remember it's more uncomfortable your cat than it is for you :)

Thank you for your advice. About you Hoover through and cats bedding is in the machine first. Will be out first thing to buy bits.

Indorex is best for the house. Speak to the vet but check it can be used with such a little kitten.
What did the vet use? Frontline is ineffective in some areas.

I must say, once I've treated the cat, as long as I keep up with her flea treatment, I don't need to tackle the house

Fleas don't like human blood. They only bite us out of hunger and desperation and will always seek out an animal where possible

Keep on top of the cats treatment and you should be fine. We use advantage

Hi, we've just been through this also with an indoor cat, after using a cheaper (all they had in tesco at 6am in a panic buy) spot on we used frontline and it worked for us, 2 months later and not saw another one.
We used a few different sprays for furniture and Hoover, Hoover, Hoover changing the bag lots!
Keep at it, with the life cycle it takes time to get the little buggers and give the kitten full house access any fleas that might be lurking will be woken up and jump on her to meet their end!

They can still get fleas but will die when they bite the cat.

this means the fleas were there all along you have only just noticed.The fleas are jumping off because the cat is now toxic to them. Unfortunately it now means you need to treat the home which is a difficult process.

As soon as the cat treated they hide in the carpets and furniture.Boil wash all laundry and soft bedding.

Get the cat out the house for a day the stuff to use very nasty not good for anything living.

Spray all soft furnishings with this such as the sofa

leave home for a few hours.Return open all windows,wipe all surfaces and anything you eat off any pet bowls.Vacuum every day for a week .Once i treated the home i never needed flea treatments for my indoor cats. good luck

I feel so bad that I hadn't noticed if she's had them all this time she sits on my lap or chest any chance she gets so would have thought I'd have noticed.
The vet also checked her for me when she had her first vaccination and said he couldn't see any.
He used advocate and gave me 2 more does of it. Hopefully that's one of the good ones?

Yeah that's a good one but please ensure her worming is up to date. fleas carry worms, and cats ingest fleas as they groom :)
As I say all you can do now is treat the house and comb her with a flea comb (I usually have a cup of boiling water close by to put the fleas into) :)

its not your fault trying to flea check a black cat with a nit comb hard enough lol.They are stealthy buggers fleas hide very well.

advocate the best but fleas lay eggs in the carpets so treat the home good luck

Advocate is working well for us. Has anyone mentioned the program injection? I mention it on every flea thread after someone on here told me about it. Its a 6 monthly injection which makes any biting flea infertile. So any new fleas can no longer lay eggs. It costs around £30 but worth every penny!

With two outdoor cats and a dig fleas rear their heads regularly from time ti time but mostly regular monthly treatment does the trick. For treating the house we buy flea bombs. Light the fuse and shut the room tight. Wait for a couple of hours minimum and you end up with a flea free room.

One tip, put a flea collar in the hoover bag to make sure any that are hoovered up get killed too.

Indorex is fab, it continues to kill the fleas for 6 months.
