Cruel to have cats in 1 bed flat?

My sort of grandmother (long standing BFs Grandma) is complaining she is lonely and me and my friend are thinking about getting her two kittens to keep her company.

She lives in a small 1 bed flat. Realistically she will have to keep a litter tray in the kitchen with food bowls etc. She does have an active social life so the cats will be alone a couple of hours a day (hence why we are thinking about two so the cats always have company)

Realistic or not?

It would be better to get an old house cat who doesn't want to go out.

Our first cats were supposed to be indoor only but it made them miserable so we let them out.

Why don't you look at Ragdoll cats? They are pedigrees, so expect to pay the going rate for them, but most if not all breeders will sell them on the proviso that they do not go outdoors. They are very placid, love company and not particularly energetic (although one of mine has her moments) so are well suited to a quieter lifestyle.

I agree with Fluffy.

My mother fancies a Border Collie pup, for company when my father dies. She likes them because a local farmer she knows has/breeds them and it rides around on his lawnmower. She's pushing 80, so no thought of who will take on the care when she kicks the bucket.

I agree with Fluffy an older indoor cat would suit her and her home better. Kittens are hard work and can be quite destructive! An adult may just be happy to have some company and a lap to snooze on. They are also fine to be left alone if she's out for a few hours a day and will quite likely sleep while she's out.
I assume she would like a cat? Best thing take her to rescue and find which cat would fit best with her.

Some cats have to be indoor cats. A older rescue might suit.

I would agree with slightly older cat. Most rescues have some that need to be indoor only
Mine is often in exactly the same position when I get home from work as he was when I left in the morning
