Today I had my cat neutered and when I got him home I noticed this red bulge. Does this look normal? Sorry for the graphic picture but I have never had a cat neutered before. I am going to call the vets in the morning.

Not sure what that could be but I don't remember it happening to my boys. They were young at the time though and we're glued up rather than stitched. Is your boy an older cat?

My boy was glued so not noticeable and nothing like that. Does he seem bothered by it/fussing with it?

He's 1 years old so a bit older than most cats get it done. He doesn't seem bothered, he's actually running around like mad and playing with his toys. He will try and lick it occasionally but will stop when I nudge his head away. Thanks for your replies, I will check with the vet in the morning :)

I've never seen anything like that before - it looks almost like a little 'hernia' - as if eg a stitch has given way and something inside has bulged out. I'd be interested to know what the vet says tomorrow. (If your vet has an email address, I'd send them that picture as well as talking to them.)

Good luck to him.

I'd go to the vet for that...I don't know what it is, but it looks like it shouldn't be in the outside.

Indeed it doesn't tabulah. My memory of all my boys is that their post-op personal bits looked pretty well the same as pre-op.

Hi everyone. Thanks for your comments. Took my boy back to the vets this morning and he is now waiting to have surgery to fix it. I feel so awful doing this to him :( the vet said he must have licked his wound causing that red lump to pop out. Poor thing. He will be fine after surgery but probably grumpy wearing a cone of shame.

Glad he's sorted. You did the right thing taking him straight back in. Hope he recovers well from the second surgery.
